Chapter 8: A Symphony of Frost and Flame (Part 2: Procedures)

Difficulty: Impossible
Heroes: Anub'arak, Arthas
Significant Items: Talisman of Evasion
Side Quests: None

In the second part of our walkthrough for the final chapter, we give out the methods of destroying both the Blood Elf and Naga Base, therefore allowing you to secure all four Obelisks.

It is assumed that you have read the first part of the walkthrough, and that your base is now well established, with 2 expansions. In addition, you have enough production buildings to quickly replace a full supply army, and that you know the basics of controlling your heroes.

Defeat of Lady Vasj:
As annoying as the Blood Elves are, the Naga's should be the first to go. They've got the weakest base, one which can be destroyed using just one full supply army. Killing this base has many rewards, most primary of which is that you can spare to supply of troops defending your main. This gives you to the necessary resources to control the second Obelisk at B. In addition, the goldmine at H becomes a free expansion... that the enemy will not attack. Make sure you've researched exhume corpses, skeleton mastery and skeletal mages.

Lady Vasj is quite weak, and will survive a combines assault of Death Coil and Frost Wyrms.

To attack the Naga, you'll need a combination of Frost Wyrms, Meat Wagons and Necromancers. Get 5 Meat Wagons, 6 Frost Wyrms, and 4 Necromancers. This keeps you just under 80 supply. wait for the Naga to attack, destroy it... spend the remaining 20 on Frost Wyrms (ie: have 2-3 Building), while your forces attack.

Send in the Crypt Lord first, the enemy will focus on him. Cast Locust Swarm... now bring your Meat Wagons just within range of their units. Unload all corpses, hit a unit, and put Necromancers on auto raise dead. Enemy forces will rush at your Meat Wagons, however, with 8 skeletons generated a one time, you'll be hard pressed to actually reach your wagons.

With their forces entrenched, Unholy Frenzy your Frost Wyrms... bring them out to finish the enemy off. Now send in the Frost Wyrms immediately, have them freeze as many Production structures as possible. In lady Vishj comes out, focus fire + Death Coil to kill here. As the Wyrms keep the base inactive, your Meat Wagons can systematically destroy their buildings... while under protection of mass skeletons.

Replace dead units with more Frost Wyrms built from your 5 Boneyards.. set the rally point to the Naga Base... with the reinforcements, you can remove the base from the map.

During this process, it is likely the Illidan will have taken the Obelisk at B or attacked your forces at E. In both cases, you will have to ignore it till the Naga base is destroyed... then retake the Obelisk back. Don't worry if you just lost a gold mine, it's only temporary, in the mean time, you've gained H.

Use Mass Meat Wagons to get rid of the Blood Elf Outpost

Wild Skirmishes:
Destroy the Naga Outpost at B if they've got one built. This might be tough, as Illidan may be there as well. However with a triumphant 100 of troops, you shouldn't have too much trouble. it's good if you lose 20 supply.. to get back on low upkeep. Continue your sweep to resecure E. Remember to use the techniques give in the part one.

Establish a base at B, build 5-10 Spirit Towers as Defense. Now station your forces at E, from there, you can intercept Red attacks as before, as well as move all your forces down to defend B when necessary. Expand at H too, but no need for any defenses there. Get a Tomb of Relics at B. From now on, keep a Town Portal in your inventory always. They're very useful! By now your mines at A and F may have run out... thank got you secure two more.

Now time to trim down the Blood Elves a little... mass Meat Wagons, and 3 Crypt Fiends till your on 100 supply, and couple them with 7 Acolytes. Move them and your Hero just outside the enemy base at G. Hit their tower once to lead out their attack... Now have the Crypt Lord charge in and take all the hits. If he's well inside, Kael will flamestrike him instead of the Meat Wagons. Use the Meat Wagons to pummel enemy archers and casters. Meanwhile the Crypt Fiends will Ensnare the Dragons Hawks, once they're dead, eliminate the outer base G, but go no further... Illidan would have attacked by now, TP to save whatever he's attacking.

The Third Obelisk:
With your force of Wagons and Frost Wyrms, throw in around 6 Crypt Fiends and you'll have no trouble securing Obelisk C.. just wait till after Illidan's attack. Though this base is better defended than the other obelisks, its no match for a 90 supply army. Have the Frost Wyrms freeze Production Buildings while Meat Wagons hammer them. Use Crypt Fiends to eliminate Couatls, then focus on the Royal Guard and Dragon Turtles. When they're dead, use Raise Dead to bring extra siege power to your side. Once C is dead, move up to I. That base is almost defenseless.. take the two Gold Mines. And just in time. as F is about to run out. Secure C with 5-10 Spirit Towers and a Tomb of Relics, you need no defenses for I.

Now station your troops back at E, allowing you to protect B and E. Blue rarely attacks C, but if they do.. Town Portal there.

Anub'arak holds of the hoarde as Frost Wyrms destroy the enemy Altar

The Fall of Kael:
Kael's base is almost impossible to destroy using conventional methods, it just trains too fast... and your power units all get polymorphed to hell and back. A more subtle approach is needed. Get a 80 supply army, consisting of Mainly Crypt Fiends... 15 of them. Supported by 2-3 Meat Wagons and 3 Frost Wyrms. Just after Kael's attack, get an Acolyte to build a Necropolis just above G, out of site.

Once it's complete, establish 15-20 Spirit Towers and a Tomb of Relics Immediately. (remember, with so many Gold Mines, I'm expecting you to have about 4000 gold). Just as they're upgrading, red will send out it's next attack, Town Portal there instantly, the fun begins.

The presence of your army will send out all red has to offer, but by now your towers should have started to complete themselves. Hold off the enemy! Remember to burrow damaged or surrounded Crypt Fiends. Do whatever you can to make them concentrate fire on Anub'arak. The Blood Mages firestorm is your largest threat... kill him quickly with a mixture of Impale, Death Coil and Focus Fire. Move the Meat Wagons back behind your towers.. the dragons and half of their army will follow to their death. use the Crypt Fiend to Protect your Wagons at all costs...

Meanwhile, you should have your Boneyards and Crypts selected, all training reinforcements... with a rally point in the middle of battle.

You initial army will die... but it'll take most of their defense with them. Before they can fully rebuild, your second should be arriving. Have your acolyte rebuild any lost spirit towers as unts engage each other in mad battle.

Now the their casters have wasted their Mana, your Frost Wyrms won't be Polymorphed, have them and your heroes take out the Arcane and Guard Towers quickly... then freeze their Production Buildings and Altar.. your Meat Wagons will fire under the cover of towers and your Crypt Fiends are used to sniper enemy casters. Keep reinforcing your troops as your advance... it's a long and tough process, but you should win.

During this time, Illidan will undoubtedly hit your outpost at E, let it fall. Once Illidan takes on Obelisk, he will rest there till a base is established. This gives your some time... When he attacks B, let it fall as well... losing two Obelisks should give you the time you need to destroy Kael. Expand on his mine.

Kill the Dragon Turtles first, their bodies provide great siege material

Controlling the Obelisks:
it's just you and Illidan left now... Town Portal back to C and wait for him to attack you. With the cover of your towers, you can defeat his attack.. then systematically retake the Obelisks at B and E. You may need to engage Illidan several times, and replace your faces a couple of times during the process. Remember not to just get one unit... especially all Frost Wyrms... his Couatls will rule you.

When you have regained all 3 outposts, defend them as before. Wait till you have 5000 gold in your stash before attempting to take the final obelisk.

Now get a force of 4 Frost Wyrms, 12-15 Crypt Fiends and 2 Meat Wagons. Send Anub'arak first, as always. Use Crypt Fiends to focus fire and kill their siege units, Dragon Turtles and Royal Guards, Cast Raise dead and have them destroy the Water Guardians. Meanwhile, get the Crypt Fiends to kill the Couatls.

Once the Couatls are undead, send in your Frost Wyrms to freeze all buildings.. Towers first, Spawning Pools second, Keep building reinforcements.

The base is secured! Take the final obelisk and enjoy!
