Chapter 1:
King Arthas
Difficulty: Almost Impossible
Heroes: Arthas, Kel'Thuzad,
Silvanis Significant Items: Mantel
of Intelligence +3, Slippers of Dexterity +3, Ogre Gauntlet
+3 Side Quests: None |
This map will test parallel processing to the
max, and you can't afford any mistakes. In fact, this is one of
the most difficult missions in the entire Frozen throne
Campaign... well on hard anyway.
For the vast majority of the mission, you will need to keep game
speed on slow as your micro all three forces to prevent enemies
from getting through. I recommend saving often, so you don't have
to start to level all over again.
Hero Development Guide: Silvanis
will Rise to level 4..
Silvanis: Level 3: Level 1 Silence, Level 1 Black Arrow,
Level 1 Life Siphon, Level 4: Level 1 Silence, Level 2 Black
Arrow, Level 1 Life Siphon,
Overall Strategy: There are three
passages to the mountains, and each of your heroes guard one of
them. In the minimap, we've represent the locations of the 9
villages by orange squares, and the paths in which the peasants
flee to be the orange dotted lines.
Make sure at any one time, you have forces covering all these
lines, or units may escape. You only have 20 chances, and need to
be very careful.
From the Map, we can see that Kel'Thuzad must stay put at his
base, or be forces to split his forces. In hard difficult,
splitting your force is suicide... so Kel'Thuzad can only defend.
Meanwhile though Arthas can launch a few offensives he's Aboms are
very dumb.. and idiotic. he mainly has to be defensive too.
You salvation lies in Salvanis, as Banshees can possess
everything, allowing you to exceed to limited 30 supply limit.
She's the only person who can afford to split her troops. So
basically, you'll want Silvanis to do all the Village destroying,
while the other heroes do their best to defend
The Enemy starts off coming with weak units, militia. But quickly
get Militia Spearmen and Militia Captains, the Captains have
1100hp and critical strike. They do get very tough. Later, you get
Militia Commanders who have Healing Wave and Level 3 Devotion
Aura... You will need a full supply of troops to stop them. Don't
get complacent.
Whenever you attack a village, a Paladin, (Either Level 6, 7 or 9)
will town Portal to the location with 2 Knights, unless you have
vastly superior forces, you can't beat these guys off. Their
resurrection and 45 second Divine Shield is very messy...
I will detail what you should do for each side in the following.
You need to put all three pieces into action at the same
time.
 | | Cripple and Skeleton Swarms is all
you can do with the Lich. |
Kel'thuzad's Strategy:
Kel'thuzad is purely defensive, don't try taking out any village with him. Begin by massing
Necromancers, and turn your Necromancers to autocast Raise Dead.
Also maintain around 2 ghouls up front for skeletons. With 30
supply, you can maintain around 12 Necromancers with ease.
For most of the time, you can leave this side to their devices.
However, when attacks are exceptionally big, you will need to
micro them. Against Militia commander's, use Cripple. Also Frost
Nova them, which usually kills surrounding militia. These guys can
then be raised as dead. Once you have about skeletons, you'll have
no worries.
The biggest danger here, really, is when you don't pay attention,
and your skeletons wonder away from the Necromancers, and so when
the enemy attacks, you have no meat wall. In this case, use
Kel'Thuzad as Meat Wall, and Frost Nova to try and create corpses
ASAP. Focus on the weak units, before the strong.
Arthas's Strategy:
Arthas will be your most difficult side to maintain, since he has no missile troops, nor
any units that can create troops. As enemy villagers and
packhorses have very low priority, your Abominations will always
engage their Militia and totally ignore their villagers if left to
their own. You, however, do not have the attention spine to force
target every villager that comes in.
So what do
you do? Build 3 ghouls, and have them on patrol at least a screen
width behind the Abominations. These ghouls do not engage enemy
military units, as they'll attack the Aboms in front. However,
they can easily rip the villagers and packhorses that get past
Arthas to shreds. Spend the rest of your Resources are Aboms...
for cost, they're much more efficient fighters.
 | | Use Raise Dead to Kill Enemy Farms,
also remember that with Level 3 Death Pact, sacrificing any unit
will bring Artha's life to full. |
Due
to the fact that you'll have no more than 6 Aboms at any time, it
is very difficult for you to take on a village with a Level 9
Paladin.. but you don't have to. After a tough battle, where
you've lost an Aboms, cast Raise Dead. Send your invincible units
to target the enemy farms (ignore everything else). As these only
have Heavy armor, your invincible dead can kill 1-2 forms before
they explode... and there's nothing the enemy can do about it!
Repeat the process twice, and the village at A is destroyed. Now
move your Aboms up to guard K instead (keep your ghouls where they
are). Now your Raised Dead are within range of the Village at B.
Repeat the process 2-3 times, and you'll destroy the second
village as well. Now stay put, there's nothing more you can do.
Just replace dead Aboms, and use raise dead in tough battles.
Oh, also break open all the creates near you, you'll find Bracers
of Agility +1, as well a Scroll of Healing. Also stock Arthas up
with Mana Potions. So that he can Raise Dead whenever cooldown
allows it.
Silvanis's Strategy:
Mass Banshees! You need nothing else. Or rather, with them, you'll get everything else. During
the time when they attack with nothing more powerful than Milia
Spearmen, just use your Banshees. Later, as Milia Captains come
in, possess the Captain of each and every attack. Have Silvanis up
front, so that she and her Skeletal minions can take the hits
while you possess the next Captain. There's also 4 knights just
along the road, possess them too.
 | | Its ironic that militiamen with
Spears are far superior to riflemen. |
Keep
your Captains at the back, so they don't die. If you do this well,
you can get 40 supply worth of troops... since each Captain is 3
supply, where's a Banshee is 2. Once you have use up all your
Banshees on Captains, and have got a whole group of them, it's
time for assault.
Kill the base at C first, all it has is Mortar Teams, Your
Captains, who can deal 100 damage with critical strike, will
slaughter them. When the Paladin Town Portals in, silence him
immediately, and focus fire. Without divine shield and
resurrection, he doesn't stand a chance. At this point, check the
three Spearmen you left behind, they may need some help.
If you're on a role, and still over 30 supply, after all this, got
take out D. There's two guard towers and a Cannon Tower, but they
all have Heavy armor... so you can take them out quickly. Proceed
then, to kill most of their troops, then their farms. Remember to
silence their Paladin.
All this should bring you down to around 20 supply, fill the gap
with more Banshees. However, rally the Banshees at L instead,
there's a mana fountain there, which can get your Banshees to
possessing status faster. By now the enemy will start sending
Militia Commanders. Use the rest of your supply on them. So by the
time all your Banshees are used, you'll have over 40 supply, about
8 Militia Captains and 4-5 Militia Commanders.
Now the commanders just rule, each has 500 mana, which means, with
mana regeneration, each can cast around 5 Healing waves! That's 25
Healing Waves! Your troops are almost invincible. With this force,
attack the village at E (remember to leave 3 Captains behind as
guard). Provided your silence their Paladin and keep your fingers
on 'E', the hotkey for Healing Wave, you'll kill them with no
losses. Remember that once you killed the Paladin, it is
advantageous to take out their farms before you take out their
troops, or more troops will be generated,
At this point, no more villagers will flee from Silvanis's side,
her side the clear, and she no longer needs to waste troops
defending!
Go back to base, fill Silvanis's Inventory with Mana Potions,
recuperate all your units Mana at the Fountain, and prepare for
the biggest fight in the game. You need to take out the Paladin
base at J.
 | | Excessive use of healing Wave makes
your army almost invulnerable. |
Death of the Paladins:
The Paladin base is well guarded, all three Paladins, the Level 6,7 and 9 are all
there. In addition, when you kill them, they will start to
resurrect at the Altars. In addition, there's a dozen Sorceress
and Priests, about 6 Knights, and 6 more who will spawn during the
process of the Battle.
To face this battle, lay down your Goblin Land Mines outside their
base. Send Silvanis in, Silence their Priests and Sorceress
attack, and run back. Their forces will be weakened by the mines,
Engage with your forces, and keep healing damaged units with your
Militia Commanders. Pick on a Paladin, silence it, focus fire, it
dies. Pick next Paladin.. etc...
Once most of their forces and all of their sorceresses are dead,
target the glowing altars, which are obviously resurrecting their
Paladins. You don't want to fight these self righteous people more
than once! You may right out of mana to cast Silence during the
Battle, with Black Arrow and all.. that's what the Mana Potions
are for.
Once the base is dead.. the rest shouldn't be hard.
Cleaning Up:
With the destruction of the Paladins, no more Paladins will come to the aid
of the villages. What's more, Silvanis is now free to help Arthas
or Kul'thazad. While your other two heroes continue to defend the
passageway, Silvish is free to destroy each village... one by one.
If you're under 30 supply, stock up on banshees.
Wipe out the Village at F first, using Healing Wae as usual. There
might be two Mortar Teams on the way. Possess them. With Rabid
healing, and no enemy hero, everything is a breeze. With F dead,
Arthas is free to help out as well.
ELiminate I, this is the toughest base, but with two heroes, you
won't have much of a problem. Meanwhile, move your two possessed
Mortar Teams to J. they can hit the Villages at G and destroy
it.
Before you destroy the final village however, pay a visit to M, N
and O. Each contains a Level 7 Hero, Mountain King, Elven Ranger
and Archmage. Killing them will cause them to drop a +3 item of
their respective primary attribute.
Mission Secrets -By Chib
1. At the second from top village on the left of the map, you'll find that at the left side of the base, there is one tree which is larger and darker than the rest, there is actually a whole line of them, hiding a path just above them that leads to the left. Head in to find... Little Timmy! :) He sells you Ice Shards for 750 gold a pop.
