Mission 3: The Dungeons of Dalaran

Difficulty: Easy
Heroes: Prince Kael, Lady Vashj
Significant Items: Ring of the Archmage, Shamanic Totem, Essence of Aszune, Frost Wyrm Skull Shield
Side Quests: None

This is a fairly easy mission offers a nice interlude in the Human Campaign. Provided your careful, and turn Game Speed down from fastest at key battles, you can pass most of this mission without losing a single unit. As usual, we won't cover every individual battle, just the ones that you might have trouble with.

Hero Development Guide:
Both Kael and Lady Vashj will rise to Level 5 on this Level

    Kael:
    Level 5: Level 3 Flame Strike, Level 2 Banish

    Lady Vashj:
    Level 5: Level 3 Forked Lightning, Level 2 Cold Arrow

General Micro Guide:
First of all, there's absolutely no hurry in this mission. Take it as slow as you like. Here's a few general tips on how to use your units and heroes to their maximum effectiveness:

1. Your Elven Captains are tough, provided you have Elven Priests, you can easily heal them too. So have them soak up the damage.

2. Flamestrike absolutely everything that looks tough, all of your melee units are Spell Immune.

3. Have your Priests on Autocast Heal, since most of your units can't be Inner Fires. Against tough bosses, Inner Fire your heroes and let them take hits.

4. Keep your Priests Alive! Siege Units have high Priority on Priests, when fighting Mortar Teams, keep Priests out of the Battle.

5. When against tough opponents, like multiple Knights or Elite Guards, Banish one to even the odds.

Banished units take extra damage from spells, and can't do much in terms of attacks. Against bosses, keep them permanently Banish and fire your spells away.

6. Against tough bosses, use Banish, Chain Lighting and Flamestrike. banished units take extra damaged from spells, and will get destroyed by this combo.

7. When up against overwhelming numbers of opponents, run your units back. often, only half of the enemy force will follow you.

I could stop the guide right there, and you'll be able to finish the mission. But we'll get into a little more detail.

General Item Searching Guide:
Follow these steps, and you won't miss an item on the map:

1. Break every Egg, Crate and anything else that's breakable.

2. Flame every patch of Mushroom you see.

3. Check out Minimap, if you didn't visit someplace that we explored in that minimap, then you've missed something.

Fleeing the Prison:
Many of your cellmates are locked on the path from A to B. Fight a few footmen.. easy. Rescue your first Lieutenant on the way to A. There, you're up against a Level 8 Spider. Remember the Banish, Flame Strike, Lightning Combo... its dead. Break open the cells to get Spell Breakers and Priests. Destroy all of the Eggs to get a few items. Level 1 Spider Broodlings might pop out.. but I certainly hope you don't find them a challenge!

There was a Spider There... really.

Proceed back to A and go East, a Footman will try to hit a Lever. Should he succeed, you must find extra Elite Guards. Cast Banish on him, then kill him at your leisure. Whenever a Footmen tries to sound an alarm in future, remember to just use Banish.

Kill the Rock Golem at C with Focus Fire, break open the Box to get a Tome of Knowledge. Turn back, and Flamestrike the Mushrooms. Get the item hidden behind them.

Now backtrack to A, break open the door. A brief cutscene follows, and your given your side quest. Find and slay the four Ghost Wizards. Your introduced to the concept of switch runes. To activate them, place one of your units on each of the two ruins. Doing so will open a secret passage, a lot of items and tomes are hidden this way.. so keep a lookout for them! We've used Colored Dots on the Minimap to Highlight whereabouts the two ruin switches of each color are, follow them to activate the ruins.

As an example, we've got two Green Ruins in the room, activate them and a door opens. Kill the Level 1 ghost Archmage (Banish + Flamestrike if you like, but he's a pushover) to get the first piece of a Ring of the Archmage. Each Piece gives +1 to attributes, and when all four pieces are collected, your Hero also gains the Brilliance Aura.

Follow the Blue Trail down, there's a major fight between humans and undead. Humans will lose, so help them to balance the odds, alternatively, Flamestrike everything. Activate the ruins a Door. Kill the Level 3 Ghost Archmage inside (Banish + Flamestrike) to get the second piece of the ring.

To east along the bridge, you may wish to explore E, but all you get is a Claw of Attack +3.

Before you break through the gate, attack the Level behind it to release Dalaran's Experiments, a huge Furbolg Shaman and an Ogre with 4000 life. They'll start fighting the guards, Go in, and help them kill the experiments. These guys are tough, so keep the Ogre Permanently Banished first, as you destroy the Furbolg. Kill the War Golems for a Scroll of Mana, if you want.

Activate the Ruins for another Tome.

Move North, prevent the Guard from opening the Lever, break through the gate. Kill the 2 Knights + 2 Footmen (Banish a Knight). Activate the two yellow ruins to get another Tome. Go through the gate. Follow the trail to G, you'll see Red and Cyan Runes switches at E and F on the way, but you can't activate them yet. You'll enter a room with two switch runes, activate them to defeat the third Ghost Mage, a Level 6. Just south of G is a Cavern, there's another Human vs Undead Fight, Flamestrike them all.

Get the Rune under the Ring of Flying Sheep to activate the secret Level.

The Secret Level:
Alright, pay attention! Make sure to pay a visit to the Chamber at H. there's 3 Sheep here, each in there own pen, and a switch corresponding to each. When you move your there, you will hear one of three sounds:

'Baa'
'Ram'
'You'

Step on them in order such that they sound out "Baa Ram You" and the door to the North will Open. Step through, and grab the 'Secret Level Power-up" in the middle of the Flaming Circle of Flying Sheep... there, Secret Level Activated!

The Final League:
Now back in the Cavern with Mushrooms, you should sot a tunnel near the south end of the Easter Wall. Go through it, and you'll be teleported to a platform overlooking E. Now move a unit back to E, and you activate the Red Runes. This opens the doors to reveal the Level Ghost Archmage. he might look tough, but he's easy. Banish him, cast Flamestrike, cast Forked Lightning.... he's dead. Get the final piece of your ring.

Now return to where you were and keep going. You'll enter a room with Mushrooms on the North East Corner. Flamestrike them, and there's a Rune of Restoration. Underneath it... the second Cyan Switch. Have a unit stand on it and activate the other one at F. The door opens, kill the Level 11 Arcanite Golem.. just Focus fire and run back damaged units.

Break open the creates inside the Rune, and you've got yourself a Shamanic Totem, Essence of Aszune and Frost Wyrm Skull Shield!

Back to H, the guards release some Flesh Golems, nasty! Run back a little, and Banish the big one. Hit him once with a Priest and he'll start running away. Kill the smaller ones. Now go back and focus on the big one. Just keep using Banish, Flamestrike and Forked Lightening, and you can kill him without losing a guy. Kill the pesky footmen.Detor to I and get some more troops.

Back at H, free your Lieutenant. You're Main mission is now updated... You must kill Jailor Kassan.

Knights will attack you from the Flank, use Banish to Disrupt their Ranks.

The Final Battle:
Before you engage Jailor Kassan, free all the troops locked at J. Now the Jailor himself is tough tough... 5000 hp and magic immune! Are these guys Genetically Engineered? No matter, kill the support troops first before attacking the Jailor. Four Knights will charge out of the gates, use a combination of Banish, Flamestrike and Forked Lightening. Once everyone's dead, focuss of Kassan. He won't live.

Mission Secrets - By Chib

1. Directly to the right of where you start, cut down the giant mushrooms with Firestorm and swim Lady Vashj down the river to find a Stone Token.
2. When you come to the yellow marker in the water, take Lady Vashj down the river to the bridge to find the matching one.
3. Just up and right through the gate from here, you'll find a purple marker under some boxes, the matching one is down and left in the water on the left side.
4. Just up and right from those last markers, you'll see the first of a pair of red ones. To find the other one, you have to keep travelling through the dungeon, you'll soon get to a room with a few giant mushrooms in it, some carts of gold, and a whole load of Undead and Humans fighting. On the right hand side, you'll see a cave with some sparkly blue lights dancing around in it, walk into the cave and you'll be taken directly to the other red marker (which opens the gate right next to them).
5. Through the gate to the left of that room where the Humans and Undead were fighting, you'll find 3 sheep in cages and 3 floor buttons to walk on. Depending on which button you walk on, the sheep will say one of three things; "baa", "ram" and "ewe". Just walk on the buttons in the correct order so it says "Baa Ram Ewe" and a gate will open above you. Walk up there and you have activated the secret level! Also, Check out the little model on the table in the sheep room, it's "Bob's Guns" shop again. :)
6. Further along to the right of the previous rooms, you'll find a group of Humans you have to kill next to a bunch of giant mushrooms. Cut them down to not only find a Rune of Restoration, but the teal marker. The matching marker can be found by going back near where the red markers were (just down and right from them). Also there is the door which the markers open. Inside is a Level 11 Arcanite Golem, but the real prize is in the boxes where you find several unique items; Shamanic Totem, Essence of Aszune and Frost Wyrm Skull Shield.
