Mission 1: Misconceptions

Difficulty: Hard
Heroes: Prince Kael
Significant Items: Claws of Attack +3, Ring if Protection +1, Periapt of Vitality
Side Quests: Hidden Caches

If not for a secret trick, the first mission would be difficult. However, by building where your not suppose to, you can seriously hinder the computer AI. This walkthrough assumes that you've read the walkthroughs for the previous campaign, and know the basics of unit preservation.

Hero Development Guide:
Kael will rise to Level 3 on this Level

    Kael:
Level 3: Level 2 Flame Strike, Level 1 Banish

Fighting Through Dalaran:
You begin with 3 Footmen, 2 Spellbreakers and 2 Priests as you follow the red trail through the corrupted streets of Dalaran. This part of the mission is quite easy, so its your job to ensure you don't lose a single unit!

1. Use Defend against enemy missile Troops.
2. Flamestrike in any battle, make sure to hit only the enemy units, and not your footmen.
3. You have Priests, who provide great healing. If a unit gets damaged too much, move him back. He'll be back on yellow health in a few seconds, and read to send back into battle.
4. Before engaging a group, make sure you can cast Flamestrike.

Follow the above, and things should be a breeze. Just remember to visit your stash at K, for a Tiny Castle and resources. Hit every crate along the way, especially next to where you start. They'll drop various runes, tomes and a Scroll of the Beast. Recharge your Mana at the Mana Fountain just above A. There's a moderately tough battle with a Level 6 Overlord just past this, don't worry about losing one guy here. He drops a rune of Lesser Resurrection. Continue to fight the mages, remember to use Spellbreaker's Control Magic to get the Water Elemental, and steal their Frost Armor. With all your guys protected by the spell, you can easily take on the next group of bandits. Keep following the line till you reach B, kill the bands, Flamestrike the trees, and get your Stash behind them. Pick up your tiny buildings, lumber and gold. Proceed further to the Shipyard, talk to the Naga and get two transports... now your ready to establish a base.

Building your primary at the top mine will ensure an easy way to defend your base.

Establishing your Base
Now Blizzard expects you to expand at F, but that's not ideal. You get attacked too much by the undead at H. So go for the Goldmine at I. This one's guarded by tougher creeps, but be careful, and you can take it out. There's two packs of Gnolls that you'll need to kill. The first, with a Level 5 Gnoll Overseer is quite simple. The second group, with a Level 5 and a Level 6 Gnoll, however, will require multiple flamestrikes. Use Your Scroll of the Beast to secure victory.

Use your Tiny Buildings to establish a base quickly, meanwhile get your peasant to start building farms. Don't try creep anything yet. Get a Lumber ASAP and build a row of Guard Towers on your coast. While your doing this, the enemy will unload their first attack, 4 Ghouls, 4 Banshees. Flamestrike the Banshees... and use Militia if you must. This is your hardest battle.

Once the Guard Towers are built along the cost, you're fine. Get 10-12 covering the coastline where they drop off units, Now when the enemy sends a transport, it won't make it to land most of the time. Even if it did, the units unloaded will be within range of a dozen towers... add in Flamestrike and they're dead.

Upgrade to keep and get an Arcane Sanctuary, and two Workshops. Mass Mortar Teams, supported by a few priests and spellbreakers. Get a Cannon Tower in front of the Guard Towers to take the hits.. it has fortified armor. Research Fragmentation Shards. Once you have 10 Mortar Teams, Systematically creep C. You'll find the Level 11 Creep easy if you lead the Creeps to your towers. Repair the Observatory.

Destroy the Trees to get to D, and kill the Golem from afar, get more stash items, including a Ring of Protection +1.

You can easily destroy enemy defences fromthe safe cover of trees.

Destroying the Undead
If There's a trick here, first place on of your transports just out of range of enemy Crypt Fiends near the Shipyard. The Undead attack force will actually get stuck trying to attack your transport. Now unload 1 Mortar Team into the Undead Island and blast away some trees behind there gold mine, leaving a wall of three Trees thick.

Transport the rest of your Mortar Teams, Hero and Priests into this the gap you freed up. Now your Mortar Teams can destroy enemy forces from the protection of the trees. With 10 of them, Priests healing and Casting Inner fire.. they're so dead. Once the force is destroyed, bash the trees. and blow them up. Production buildings first, as usual. Now just repair the observatory in the middle to win. Before you do that though, you may wish to pay a visit to E. Getting some extra items, such as a Periapt of Vitality, always helps.

Mission Secrets -By Chib
1. At the top right, where you start, you can use Flame Strike to destroy the trees above you, head out onto the beach to find and kill some Murlocs.
2. In this same area, go to the far top right of the beach and use Flame Strike again on the lone tree; an Albatross will then pop up! If you ask nicely, it'll give you a Robe of Magi +6. ;)
3. At the very bottom right behind the L-shaped building is a Bundle of Lumber.
4. At the bottom left of the island that you start on, you can walk around the edge of the island past the trees where a Moss Covered Granite Golem awaits; but beware, he is very hard to kill.
