Mission 3: Tomb of Sargeras

Difficulty: Medium
Heroes: Maive
Significant Items: Shadow Orb
Side Quests: The Shadow Orb, Barriers

This level's a huge dungeon crawl, the largest one you've done yet. The strategy here is simple, conserve all your units. You'll have to do your best to avoid every single death, or you may find certain battles impossible.

During the mission, you'll be given a sidequest where you need to collect the tens pieces of a Orb. Putting them together gives you a powerful item that adds +10 to damage, +3 armor, and increased hp regeneration. However, the 10 pieces are extremely difficult to find.

Since this side quest is not critical, we won't go through how to get each in detail during the main walkthrough. It will be treated in its own section, which you're highly recommended to read.

Hero Development Guide:
Maive will rise to Level 5 on this Level

    Maive:
Level 5: Level 2 Fan of Knives, Level 3 Blink,

We strongly recommend Blink on this level, as useful as Fan of Knives may be. It'll save a lot time as you experiment on where you can Blink to, and makes the final part of the mission, much, much easier.

Whirlwind is extremely effective against the Naga Royal Guards.

General Tips
We'll only be covering the big fights in detail, for the rest, you'll need to learn how to use your forces to your best advantage. Here's a general guide of what you should do:

1. Remember, at Night Time, the hide trick will stick work against melee opponents! By forming a line of Huntresses that block off the Enemy, you're archers can pick off melee opponents from behind. There are several places on the map where the Passageway is Narrow enough for this to be done.

2. Monitor all your troops at any time. There are runes of Healing all over the place, so try to spread out the damage done evenly. Use hide whenever a unit gets to yellow Health.

3. Use Maive's Blink and Fan of Knives to destroy spell casters, and clumps of missile units like skeletal archers quickly. This is especially useful in places like A, where the Archers are behind barricades.

4. Destroy every crate, often they have stuff! Once Maive has got Level 3 Blink, try Blinking outside your passageways all the time. Usually it'll say you can't blink to somewhere where you haven't explored... but there's times when you got a nice surprise.

5. When you've got your Druids of the Claw, you no longer need to worry about getting Maive damaged. Before every hard battle, cast Rejuvenation of Maive, and Roar. Blink Maive into the fray with Fan of Knives. With high armor, and every replenishing health, Maive is a good tank for the rest of your forces. She can always Blink out when she's on red.

6. Use Druid of the Talon (When you get them) to Cyclone tough opponents, especially Naga Myrmidons and Royal Guards.

7. Do not lose Naisha! Her ability to cast unlimited Sentinels makes her essential for retrieving two of the Shadow Orbs. 8. Keep one of your Druids of Human Form, use him for Rejuvenation. The other Druid, in Bear Form, can cast Roar.

The First League
When you start off, you have the option of going North of East. East is the main route, while North leads to a dead end. I found the North passage not worthwhile. You get a Rune of Shielding, which runs out when you fight the creep with Chain Lightning at B, and a Potion of Greater Mana. You'll have a full inventory, and with all the Runes of Mana everywhere, you probably won't need the potion. So it just ends up damaging your troops. Follow the Red Line instead.

When you move Maive to the edge of the chamber, enemies will reveal a chamber to your right. Blink to it, and use your archers to pick them off.

Fight the Overlords at C, just make sure your Archers avoid their Rain of Fire and they're easy. Move Maive as close as you can to the eastern wall, you'll be attack by Sea Elementals on the other side. Blink there, hide. Use your archers to pick off the outranged enemy. Pick up Orb Fragment to get the Sidequest at D, get runes, Blink back.

Take a detor to E, kill the Pitlords for exp. Get the Tome and go back to the Double Doors. Not, you can't see the Shadow Orb Fragment or Blink to it from here.

Fight you're way to F, nothing too hard. Flick the 'switch' of four glowing squares by walking over it. Destroy the Rock Barriers down south and get your Druids of the Claw. A round door gives you access to G. Blink to the center platform and slaughter the Slimes. Get Shadow Orb. Now see the little X at H. If you position your Warden just above the stairs there, you can see over the wall and blink to it. Follow the yellow trail, dispatch the enemies (you get a lot of health and mana ruins to do it). From the room with a Throne and two Skeletons, you can Blink Northwards to get the Shadow Orb Shard at E. Go back to F, with your army.

Fight your way to G, remember to use General Tip 5 and you won't lost a unit. At G, you'll here more of Gul'dans tale.

The Second League: Fighting Hydras
At H, you'll have your first tough fight. a Level 10 and a Level 6 Hydra. Beware! The Level 6 Hydra splits into two level three Hydras when it dies, while the Level 10 Hydra splits into 2 level 6 hydras when it dies, which then split again! So you're actually fighting, a Level 10, 3 Level 6's and 6 Level 3's here! Make sure to Roar first!

Focus on the Level 6 Hydra first, and use Fan of Knives to kill the two Hydralings it spawns into, before you deal with the Ancient Hydra. Make sure to use a Rejuavenating Maive as Bait. The Hydras will target your archers, who're very weak. Hide them when they're on yellow. You may wish to pick up the Ruin of Healing in Mid Battle is you're desperate.

The next group will have an Eldar Hydra in it, kill that first. It doesn't split and it has Faerie Fire..

break the barriers at I, get your Dryads. Kill the Dragon Turtles only if you must, they're tough and you don't get much of a reward (a Ruin of Restoration, but your girls should be fully healed)

There's two Orb Shards at J, you'll need to Sentinel the Tree to blink to one of them, and take a detor to get the other. Details can be found in our Shadow Orb Section.

Sentinel the tree at K as well, so you can Blink up and kill the Turtles to get another Shard. Destroy the Egg Sacks, to get a Stone Token. Rock Golems are great Meatshields.Proceed to L, fight another Ancient Hydra along the way. Kill the Elder Hydra first, and then repeat what you did previously.

At L, you'll meet the Naga, and have a tough fight. A Dozen also Naga's, including Myrmidons and their tougher versions, Royal Guards with over 1300hp, as well as Master Sirens. The Rock Golem comes in handy. Remember to use your Staff of Negation to decyclone your units.

Fight some Royal Guards to reach I. Listen to Gul'dan's tale. Use Maive to Blink into the water up North. Go up the ramp on the right, then blink to the one on the left, to get a Shadow Orb Fragment.

When you're fleeing the ruins, there'll be Naga's completely blocking your way. It's times like these that Level 3 Blink comes in handy.

The Final League:
Nothing too difficult here, just remember to pick up the next Orb Shard on the way to J. Use Blink to access the three side passageways to get the final Shadow Orb Fragment, another Stone Token and a Rune of the Wild (giving you an Ursa Warrior). (Ie: O, P and Q)

With this huge Ursa and Warstomp, as well as Cyclone, brushing through the final guards at R is not a problem. When you're read, break through the final gate to confront Illidan.

Fleeing the Tomb:
Now, you've got 2.5 minutes to flee to Tomb, meanwhile you'll find that the passageways have been repopulated with lots of Nagas, Frost Revenants, Dragon Turtles and god knows what else! Fighting through them is impossible, use Blink.

You've got Level 3 Blink, the cool down is 1s, that means that you can use to to avoid all confrontations, not to mention you move twice as fast! It took me 1 minute to get back to the entrance, this won't be so easy without Level 3 Blink... with Level 1, I'm not sure if its possible.

Shadow Orbs: (By Chib)
We list explicitly how to get to each Shadow Orb here:

Blink into the middle of enemy forces, and let loose a Fan of Knives. When locating the Shadow Orb Shards, Maive is on her own.

1. In the room where you come across the statue of a Huntress, walk up the stairs at the end, and then Blink back onto the platform that is situated between the stairs. From there you can blink to another area below where you can see a Rune of Mana. You can head left to find some more skeletons and more runes. From the left end of the area, you can move to the top, and blink over an area you've already been too to find the first of the Shadow Orb Fragments.
2. When you obtain the two Druid of the Claw's, walk down into the passage they came out of, you can Blink left over some rocks (a rune is there), keep walking along, down and around the small passage there and you'll find the second Shadow Orb Fragment.
3. After you have opened the Rolling Stone Door (where the slime creatures are), you can blink down and left to find the third Shadow Orb Fragment.
4. The fourth Shadow Orb Fragment can be found when you enter the passageway that contains small canal type things on either side with lots of little waterfalls flowing into them all in unison. From there, you can Blink left to where you see a rune, the Fragment is left and down from there.
5. In the far top left, you can walk up a ramp to get out of the water, from the end of the little path there, you can Blink across the cliffs (down and left), in one of the crates there is the fifth Shadow Orb Fragment.
6. Just down and right from the ramp where you just walked up, you will find a solitary tree, place a Sentinel on it, it will allow you to see up the cliffs down and right from there, where the sixth Shadow Orb Fragment lies.
7. Slightly up and right from that last position, you will find another lone tree; again place a Sentinel on it, so you can teleport up and over the cliff to find two Giant Sea Turtles guarding some eggs. The real prize is killing one of the turtles though, as it gives you the seventh Shadow Orb Fragment.
8. In the far top right corner, when you have Blinked into the water (and killed the guy there), walk up onto the righthand side platform, from here you can blink over to the platform on the left; destroy the crate for the eighth Shadow Orb Fragment.
9. After you break through the Massive Wooden Gate near the bottom right, stand Maiev directly to the right of the top pillar (that the gate was attached to), from here, you can see a rune up and left over the wall, Blink over to it and head upwards. From there, Blink over the passageway (upwards), and to the left you will the ninth Shadow Orb Fragment.
10. Walk down below the Massive Wooden Gate once you've walked through it, from the bottom there, you can see down and right into a canal type area, Blink in, follow it for the final Shadow Orb Fragment!
