NEWS FOR Sunday, August 31, 2003

New Poll - Deathwing @ 3:42:43 EDT
This week, we move to the Night Elves, and who shall prevail here. Is it the Demon Hunter, with his raw power, or the Keeper of the Grove, with his Entangle Cheese... or how about the Priestess with her Aura and Starfall? And what of the Warden? Be sure to vote.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 3:41:19 EDT
So what happened this week? Lets check the poll:

Which Undead Hero do you find Most Useful?

Death Knight   321   37%
Dread Lord   179   21%
Crypt Lord   207   24%
Lich   79   9%
Daboo?   81   9%

TOTAL

867

100 %
..

Once again, we have a clear winner. But this time... there's also a clear loser. It looks like no Undead Army can go without healing, especially when the same spell can be used offensively as well.  SO the Death Knight comes on top. The lich, however, takes last place. In the age where hero kill spells are everywhere, no one likes a frail hero that moves slowly...

It's a new week, well time for us to entertain you with a new scenario. This time, we have an action packed scenario ideal for that quick, action packed feel.

In Creep Fight, players take control of mutated citizens of Dalaran as they true to kill each other. It's one of those frag fest maps, except that every player undergoes random mutation every couple of seconds. This adds variation, and makes the map a rather fun game to play.

Download it here.

Battle.net Forums - Spider @ 22:38:07 EDT
The Battle.net forums have undergone some major upgrades. Here is a list of all the changes:
  • -New layout for the Warcraft III forums! - If you have bookmarked any of the Warcraft III forums, you will need to delete your bookmark and create a new bookmark to the new layout. Check out the new layout. If you find the layout is too dark, please adjust your monitor’s contrast/brightness.
  • -List of all posts by poster: Next to each poster’s name, you will see a magnifying-glass-over-a-person icon. Click on this icon and it will list all of the stored posts by that poster. To see their latest posts, you will need to flip to the last page.
  • -Warcraft III users: The forums now show the user’s clan and links to their clan page next to their name!
  • -New signature preview! - You can now see your signature and make changes to it without making test posts to the forums. Go to the options screen and make a change to your signature. You can see what it will look like and make further changes to it before it appears “live” on the forums.
  • -Removed post count: While this was a cool feature, we found people abused it too much in order to get higher post counts.
  • -Forums now have a title (top of Web browser window) which is helpful when creating a bookmark to a specific forum.
  • -MVPs now have a different post color

Want to see the changes for yourself? Then take this link to the forums themselves!

Deep inside Draenei is where the Human Campaign really picks up, as the difficulty is scaled another level. Not only are you fighting multiple enemies... but you're fighting severely powered enemies... all of whom dish out chaos damage. And too make matters worse, one of the bases ins guarded by 6 Red Dragons, and builds them two at a time.

When 90 supply of troops can do no more than dent an enemies defenses, and with limited gold... what do you do? What units can you get that's most powerful for their supply? New Poll - Deathwing @ 3:01:31 EDT
We continue our survey of hero popularity this week with the undead. Will we again get a clear winner, as we did with the Orcs and the Humans? And if so, will at be the invaluable Death Knight, the hulking Crypt Fiend, the well rounded Dread Lord or the Lich with his Frost Nova? Be sure to vote!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 2:52:36 EDT
With the start of a new week, it's time for a new poll. So here's the results of the current one:

Which Orc Hero to you find most useful?

Far Seer   337   39%
Blademaster   130   15%
Tauren Chieftain   129   15%
Shadowhunter   180   21%
Daboo?   86   10%

TOTAL

862

100

Well... we have a clear winner this time. The Far Seer is obviously the primary choice for the vast majority of players... and its all because of those Wolves. Far Seer harass has become the staple tactic in 1vs1 games...  Other heroes, well they just don't have wolves.

Map of the Week: Battle at Helm's Deep - Deathwing @ 3:10:56 EDT
It's a new week, and time for a new map! As promised, we bring back to you Battle of Helms Deep, which was lost due to an unfortunate server overload last weekend.

A faithful recreation of that unforgettable battle in 'The Tower Towers', this one contains a number of features you would not normally see, including custom models, custom portraits and custom sounds from the movie! For once, Legolas isn't a female archer, and the Uruk-hai are no longer green....

Featuring countless armies, custom spells, fully destructible walls... this is a blast during a LAN Party, where the connection's fast and the computers powerful... 4+ players highly recommended.

New Walkthrough: Blood Elf Mission 4 - Deathwing @ 4:45:13 EDT
Today, Infoceptor continues its series of detailed walkthroughs for the Frozen Throne. This time, we look at the fourth mission of the human campaign... perhaps the most unique of them all.

People who play customs games a lot for get the feeling that this is more a scenario than a single player mission, with both you and the computer getting an endless stream of computer controlled armies... Meanwhile, it is a battle of wit between Maive and you... except of course, their army is about 3 times the size of yours on hard difficulty.

This scenario is fast faced, action packed... and fan. But what's the quickest way to pass it? Find out:

We'll have more additions soon!

1500 Wins! - Frostbyte @ 20:31:35 EDT
Thought this had been posted ages ago but anyway, CherryZ of The Net clan was the first Frozen Throne player to reach the 1500 wins mark. With over 34 games a day and his competitors far behind him he did it in style and grace. All his games were AT and its a wonder he found 1500 players to play with. He was ranked #2 on 4v4 AT and #8 on 3v3 AT. He had a maximum win streak of 77 wins! The race is still on for the other 5 high level Icons!

NEWS FOR Sunday, August 17, 2003

New Poll - Deathwing @ 3:23:09 EDT
We continues with our series... it's now time to focus on the Orcs. Which hero is most popular this time? Is it the Far Seer, with his overpowered Spirit Wolves? The Blademaster, the best assassin, the Tauren, with his Endurance aura, or the Shadow Hunter for his healing? Be sure to vote!

Poll Results: Most Popular Human Hero - Deathwing @ 3:08:30 EDT

It's a new week... so let's take a look at the poll:

Which Human Hero do you use the Most Often?
Blood Mage   148   19%
Archmage   274   34%
Mountain King   160   20%
Paladin   102   13%
Daboo?   112   14%

TOTAL

796

100 %

Looks like the preference is obvious... Archmage takes first place without breaking a sweat. Few can deny that Water Elementals are great in the early game, providing all the meat you need to secure a fast expansion... and with almost unlimited many, an area of effect spell and Mass Teleportation, you can't ask for much more.

The Paladin, on the other hand, scored less than Daboo... People just don't like defensive heroes very much.

Map of the Week (Lets Try this Again) - Deathwing @ 2:43:53 EDT

New Poll - Deathwing @ 2:55:55 EDT
Over the next few weeks, we'll do a systematic survey of just what heroes people like the most. We'll start with the humans, who've got arguable the most versatile heroes out of any race. So, which one do you use the most often? Go vote!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 2:49:39 EDT
Lets see how fanatical the Warcraft 3 Players are here:

How Many Hours do you Spend Playing Warcraft 3 a Week?
0    143   16%
1-5   220   24%
5-10   235   26%
10-20   140   15%
20-40   87   10%
40+   88   10%

TOTAL

913

100 %
..

Interesting... it looks like the average viewer at Infoceptor plays 1-10 hours of Warcraft 3 a week... that's reasonable, given that there are other things to do you know... (like post on the forums for instance). However, 1/10 people are truly hardcore, cloking over 40 hours of gaming per week! That's 8 hours a day, equivalent of a full time job! No wonder some people are really... really good.

Warcraft 3 Win Best Cinematics - Deathwing @ 2:19:37 EDT

New Poll - Deathwing @ 3:02:28 EDT
Blizzard has been known to attract some pretty hardcore players with their games, people who play professionally, people who play as much as a professional, and people who just keep playing... Do you consider yourself one of those? Well lets see how many hours per week of Warcraft 3 you play!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 2:47:21 EDT
Ah, a new week, time for a new poll again! Without delay, here are the results to the current one:

Which of the new Race Specific Heroes do you think is most useful?

Blood Mage   113   13%
Shadow Hunter   231   27%
Crypt Lord   206   24%
Warden   203   24%
Daboo?   96   11%

TOTAL

849

100 %

Looks like it's a pretty even balance bettween three of the heroes and the Blood Mage gets the thumbs down. I guess the other three human heroes just complement each other so well that no one find need to the mage. The Shadow Hunter takes prime spot... Orcs love healing.
