Twilight Archon Official - Deathwing @ 2:22:43 EDT
Blizzard has posted the official page for the Twilight Archon. It is interesting to note that Archons can be formed by merging two Dark Templar, two High Templar or a combination of both:

With the halves of the protoss race reunited, an archon can now be brought into being by the merge of two high templar, or two dark templar, or even the unification of a dark templar and a high templar. Although the protoss are loath to sacrifice valuable templar, those who do achieve this final level of commitment are forever honored in the memories of their people.

Yet, it's somewhat unclear whether all such mergings will result in a twilight Archon.

Thor not a Superunit - Deathwing @ 1:26:28 EDT
Many people have being wondering whether the new Terran Thor is a superunit. Blizzard confirmed today that while they're tough, they're by no means super units, and more than one can appear one the battlefield:

The Thor will not be the Terran equivalent to the Protoss Mothership. In addition, you will be able to build more than one Thor. The Thor unit will not be the type of unit you'll want to march into the enemy base by itself.

More info about the Thor will be released later on.

By no means should you consider the Thor to be a 'weak' unit, it just has certain weaknesses that encourage players to add it as part of their arsenal, rather than as a 1 unit army

Thanks Biomechanic!

Terran Units Revealed! - Deathwing @ 22:53:37 EDT
Swedish gaming magazine Superplay is the first to get juicy details about Terrans in Starcraft 2. Some new details include:

New unit: Viking Fighter
An awesome new unit that works like a transformer. In it's original shape it is a flying fighter unit (vague resemblence with the valkyrie) but it can at any time change shape into a walker unit (kinda looks like a Goliath)

New unit: Thor

I love the looks of this unit. This is a massive walker unit. For those of you familiar with the warhammer 40k universe, this unit is the spitting image of the Warhound Titan. It says in the preview text that this unit can manage to destroy a whole base single handedly.

Thanks to Biomechanic, we go a great summary of all thew new information:

Some very cool features here. Supply depots that can go underground will make Terran base defence even more of an art. A unit that can switch between air and land will certain bring new strategies to the table. Needless to say, check it out!

Resilience to Reduce DOT Effects - Deathwing @ 17:49:56 EDT
Confirmed by Blizzard at WoW-Europe Forums:

In the next major content patch, the combat rating, resilience, will also reduce the damage dealt by damage over time (DoT) effects. As it currently stands, each new tier of equipment adds to the amount of damage DoT abilities have, yet that damage is not mitigated through combat ratings found on typical equipment. This change will help ensure that DoT effects do not scale too well compared to other damage mechanics.

The amount of damage reduced will be equal to the critical chance reduction effect that resilience grants.

Sounds like Warlocks will be complaining.

Brief SC2 Preview at Gamespot - Deathwing @ 17:43:34 EDT
Gamespot has has a chance to talk with Rob Pardo, and get a bit of new information about Starcraft 2.

Pardo explains that the studio is in a "heavy design phase," where different units are being designed, redesigned, and merged on a regular basis. The executive also suggests that not all of the units that have been shared with the public will make it into the final game--many will be scrapped or have their abilities combined with others to create final units.

They then talk about a few new units, but these have already be released by the leaked PC Gamer Scan. One thing to note is that Gamespot claims the Protoss Tempest is a troop transport, and mentions nothing about its carrier capabilities. Given the gameplay videos, we remain unconvinced.

Playing Games Improve Life Skills - Deathwing @ 21:42:13 EDT
James Gee, a Proffesor at University of Wisconscin has recently published a paper claiming that gaming has many benefits to the mind:

Gee’s epiphany led him to the forefront of a wave of research into how video games affect cognition. Bolstered by the results of laboratory experiments, Gee and other researchers dared to suggest that gaming might be mentally enriching. These scholars are the first to admit that games can be addictive, and indeed part of their research explores how games connect to the reward circuits of the human brain. But they now recognize the cognitive benefits of playing video games: pattern recognition, system thinking, even patience. Lurking in this research is the idea that gaming can exercise the mind the way physical activity exercises the body: It may be addictive because it’s challenging.

In fact, he goes on to say that not only do gamers have improved reactions and coordination, they also become better at problem solving and social skills. Read the rest here.

Chinas Censor's WoW Skeletons... - Deathwing @ 0:21:59 EDT

In a surprise and utterly unfathomable move, the Chinese central government has decreed that skeletons in World of Warcraft must be censored

China's drive to impose social and political "harmony" on the internet has claimed a new set of victims: undead skeletons. Chinese players of World of Warcraft, a hugely popular online role-playing game, have expressed outrage after their 'undead skeleton' characters were suddenly clad in new flesh, apparently in order to comply with a secret government ban on bare bones.

Yeah... we're a bit confused about this too. We're note sure how skeletons will cause disharmony, where's zombies won't. But apparently, its these skeletons that will get the short straw. Read the rest here.

Illegal Love in World of Warcraft - Deathwing @ 5:04:16 EDT
Love has now boundaries, be it geographic and age... at least that seems to the case in World of Warcraft. In a recent twist of events, an Australian woman has been arrested for attempting to lure a 17 year old boy to Australia.... a boy who she met and fell in lvoe with in WOrld of Waarcraft. Yes, I kid you not:

AN AUSTRALIAN woman has been arrested in the US for trying to lure her young internet boyfriend to Australia.
It is believed Tamara Broome, 31, might have been set up by the boy's parents.

Ms Broome told her housemate they paid for her to travel to the US this week so "they could sort it all out". Instead, Ms Broome was met by three detectives as she tried to board a train near the teenager's home town in North Carolina.

She was charged with attempting to abduct a child after a 17-year-old boy was caught trying to board a flight to Australia.
Last Saturday she left Australia to meet the teenager, but she is now behind bars at the Pitt County Detention Centre in North Carolina.

The university student is said to have begun an intense relationship with the boy, then 16, a year ago through medieval-themed online role-playing game World of Warcraft.

And you thought you'd seen it all, read the rest here.

Starcraft: Ghost may be revived - Deathwing @ 21:44:07 EDT

Starcraft: Ghost, Blizzards console action game, has being sitting out of action for the past 3 years. Yet according to G4TV, Rob Pardo has confirmed that it may not be completely dead:

Blizzard says that they might revive the Starcraft: Ghost project, which has been long in development but indefinitely postponed. Rob Pardo, speaking at the Hollywood and Games Summit yesterday, acknowledged that he was interested in bringing the game back, and felt that Blizzard hadn't done everything they could do with the characters.
