New Poll - Deathwing @ 1:19:23 EDT
Now that Blizzard has another high quality expansion pack under its belt, it's time to ask the question, how does the Frozen Throne match up to all the other excellent Expansions Blizzard has produced in the past? In this week's poll, it's up to you to decide which expansion pack was the most worthwhile.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 0:40:40 EDT
It's a new week, time for a new poll. Without delay, here are the results to the current one:

Which race to believe is strongest in Frozen Throne?
Human   116   11%
Orc   146   14%
Undead   236   23%
Night Elf   84   8%
It's Balanced   258   25%
Don't Have FT   192   19%

TOTAL

1032

100 %
..

Interesting, it looks like popular opinion is very much contradictory to what hardcore players are saying. Where's top players state that it is almost impossible for the Undead to win against a Human, and difficult against a Night Elf player, we've got the Undead voted as strongest, while Night Elf and Humans as weakest...

There's also a good portion of people who consider the game balanced, that's always good to see.

Warcraft 3 Armor - Deathwing @ 5:34:17 EDT
Since the Frozen Throne release, we have received reports from numerous people about damage reduction on their heroes exceeding 100%. We have made some investigations, and come up with an explanation.

It seems that in Warcraft 3, Damage Reduction is calculated separately from Natural Armor and Magical Armor Bonus. That is, while no matter how high your natural armor, your unit's damage reduction will never exceed 100%, and similarly for magical armor... the two combined can go up to as high as 200%.

But don't be fulled, your hero is not invincible, there is an implicity damage reduction cap of 90%... even so, it means your unit is 10x tougher than a unit of the same hp, with 0 armor. It also means that having say 5 armor and a Ring of Protection +2, if better than having 6 armor.

Given Blizzard's track record with expansion packs, it's understandable that fans of the company's games would have very high expectations for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. WarCraft III Frozen Throne Campaign Competition! - Spider @ 22:13:37 EDT
Welcome to Infoceptor's Official WarCraft III: Frozen Throne Campaign Competition! Infoceptor is looking for an original campaign taking place after the events of Frozen Throne. Read on if you're interested in participating!

All campaigns submitted must be properly labeled, and zipped. Be sure to include at least a one page story outline of your campaign. A minimum of 5 maps is required, no bigger than 192x192 in size. You're also allowed 2 submaps total, no bigger than 64x64. (i.e. for an optional side quest)

The total size of the zip file should be about 5 megs tops. This is for a voiceless map. Not everyone will want to stick with silent campaigns, and we understand this. However, there is risk involved with a map that uses sound. You can have up to a 20 meg zip file, but every map in the campaign MUST use sound, use it often (i.e. cutscenes and major dialogue), and use the highest quality sound possible.

If you think your mike is unfit to make effective voice overs, or you just can't adhere to the 20 meg max limit, then don't use audio. It will actually hurt you more than it helps if it's not done near perfectly.

Should you pull it off seamlessly, you will be awarded bonus points for the extra effort. The same goes for effective use of doodads/misc add-ons to the map. They won't make a great campaign necessarily, but if done well, they will significantly boost your score if we feel you've done a good job in setting the "mood" for each map.

Custom music is always a plus; if you can do it. You'll be granted additional space as we see fit, but please e-mail us before you include custom music in your campaign.

Contestants will have around a month to create and submit their campaigns. After the deadline, 5 finalists will be chosen and given extra time to polish their maps. At this time, space is not an issue, giving each of the 5 finalists the freedom to do what they need to do, in order to beat their competition.

Maps will be judged on their overall quality, map layout, trigger ingenuity, storyline, and of course fun factor. Anything else will be graded accordingly at the discretion of the judges.

We at Infoceptor realize that maps take a lot of time and effort in their creation process, and we are going to reward our finalists with a variety of prizes.

For first place, the winner will receive 3 months of the honorary "Staff Choice" Footman icon in the new WarCraft III Map Archive, and a Blizzard game of their choice, shipped to their door.

For second place, the winner will receive 2 months of the honorary title, a Blizzard novel, and a Blizzard action figure, both of their choice.

For third place, the winner will receive 1 month of the honorary title, with either a Blizzard novel, or action figure of their choice.

For the two runners up, we will still grant them 1 month of holding the honorary title, as thanks and recognition of their hard work.

Roper Resignation Hits Home - Deathwing @ 0:12:36 EDT
K. Nguyen has sent word that CNN has got an artical on why Bill Roper left, and its implications on Vivendi, Blizzard's parent company. Most notably:

"If we know that something's going to be happening, we want to have a direct pipeline to talk to someone who's above Blizzard," said Roper. "We wanted to be able to have that level of participation and communication with Vivendi (V: Research, Estimates) and to be able to offer some insight and some knowledge in what they're thinking about in terms of a sale, particularly with Blizzard. And for the four of us, that opportunity wasn't going to be made available."

IGN Reviews Frozen Throne - Deathwing @ 23:33:39 EDT
PC IGN has just review Blizzard's latest release, The Frozen Throne., and the response is very positive:

The Frozen Throne is a good example of why Blizzard has retained its fans for so long. They don't skimp. When you think about it, most expansion packs that are released just kind of give new shoddy campaigns with less of a story and little production value. The Frozen Throne could almost stand by itself with the engaging story and gameplay. This expansion pack does exactly what it was supposed to do, it extends the life of the original game by expanding the content considerably without cutting corners in story, voice-overs, or presentation.

They gave it a nice 90%. Read the rest here. Kudos to Martin Lykke for the news.

Diablo II Skill Balancing - Deathwing @ 2:55:02 EDT
With all this excitement about Frozen Throne, lets not forget Diablo II:

Many of the skills for each character class have been thoroughly revised. For example, the Paladin's Zeal gets an increasing damage bonus after level 5 and a synergy from Sacrifice. Holy Shock now has improved damage and an elemental damage synergy from both Resist Lightning and Salvation. The new Holy Bolt now heals more life, costs even less mana, and deals more damage to Undead, bypassing their resistances. In addition, synergies from Prayer, Blessed Hammer, and Fist of Heavens add even more to Holy Bolt's effectiveness.

Good news for Diablo II players.

Bill Roper Resignation Interview - Deathwing @ 2:13:53 EDT
People who've read news earlier today would be asking why? Why would Bill Roper, co-founder of a company that has become the pinnacle of the gaming industry make a sudden resignation? Well the guys at Gamespot have managed to interview him on just that.

Asked what role Vivendi Universal's corporate management had to play in the decision, Roper admitted that was a big part of it: "We wanted to have a level of involvement [in deciding the studio's direction] that was not going to be made available. For the interests of the people that we work with, we should have been able to talk to the people that make the decisions and that knew what was going on." But in further describing Blizzard's situation, he said, "It's the same challenges we always faced. I have absolutely no doubt that they will keep fighting the good fight. We tried to leave them in a good place, and I honestly expect that Blizzard will continue to make great games."

So yes, lets blame Vivendi... Read the whole article here.
