Predicted Frozen Throne Change - Deathwing @ 3:41:42 EDT
Warcraft3_plyr has sent word that Blizzard has confirmed at least one major balance change that will be featured in the retail version of The Frozen Throne:

Halls of the Dead and Black Citadel (aka Death Star) will be getting a Frost Attack instead of its current attack. This will weaken late game Undead defense while still giving them better static defense than other races.

This will be a welcome change to all of those who complain that undead supertowers are far too powerful.

Blizzard against Smurfing - Deathwing @ 3:21:57 EDT
Rob Pardo has posted that some will indeed be done about smurfing. A popular activity taken up by good players lately, much to the annoyance of low level players who wish to have good win ratios:

We do have a method that will hopefully address smurfing, but it is still being implemented. The gist of it is that it will very quickly evaluate your skill over a short number of games and start matching you against the proper opponents long before you actually obtain the proper level

Interesting, for his whole post, including his opinions on this particular act, read the post.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 4:05:36 EDT
The recent surge of new information at E3 has renewed people's interest in upcoming Blizzard Games, especially World of Warcraft, who's beta is scheduled only a few months away. Our question to you this week is, when you first get your hands on the game, you'll be met with a decision. Which race will you be?

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 3:58:32 EDT
Time for a new poll. here's the results to the current one:

In the average game of Frozen Throne, do you bother to hire any of the Neutral Heroes?

Always   88   11%
Sometimes   170   22%
Occasionally   127   17%
Never   55   7%
Don't have Beta   327   43%

TOTAL

767

100 %

Out of the half that had the beta, it looks for most, Neutral heroes are a staple part of the game. Thought for some, they still remain a novelty. In practice, Neutral Heroes are often scene in Frozen Throne as support, but its very rare to see them used as the primary in a serious game.

SC:G Update - Spider @ 1:48:54 EDT
Well, it seems Blizzard is once again pushing back release dates:

In order to meet our goals and deliver the outstanding gameplay experience our customers have come to expect from Blizzard products, we have decided to extend our StarCraft: Ghost development schedule through the end of 2003. That said, the Ghost development team remains hard at work, and we look forward to bringing you an outstanding tactical-action console game in 2004.

We firmly believe that this additional development time will prove invaluable, ensuring that the game will truly expand on the legendary gameplay experience found in the previous StarCraft titles. As with all Blizzard products, our goal is to make StarCraft: Ghost the best it can be, and we will not release the game until it’s ready.

Announcements regarding further details and specifics on the release of the game will be available in the near future. We encourage you to check our official Web site for updates, and as always, we’re grateful for your interest and enthusiasm.

I guess we all need to wait a little longer, but knowing Blizzard they use the time well, and will no doubt amaze us once again with their impressive work.

Patch 1.11? - Spider @ 16:09:54 EDT
While there has been no official word of a new StarCraft patch, a Korean site seems to think there is one in the works. You can check it out here. However, most of us cannot speak nor read Korean, and using Altavista to translate has given us mere bits of what seems to be an unofficial annoucement of a 1.11 release. Hoax or not, give it a read and tell us your thoughts on our boards. If you happen to read Korean, please by all means provide us with a clearer translation!

Big thanks goes to Tyrael for the article.

More Rune Words - Spider @ 20:48:19 EDT
This time Blizzard has released information on the new Rune word Melody, which works in bows.

The Rune Word Melody now works with bows in the 1.10 patch for Diablo II.

This screen shot is from the latest release candidate for the 1.10 patch of Diablo II that is currently being run through our QA testing procedure. Although we do not have a release date set for this patch, we are working hard to get it out as soon as possible.

Information Requests - Spider @ 8:57:23 EDT
According to Gamespot, WarCraft III ranks as #3 on their top 10 list in terms of inqueries for information. World of WarCraft pulls in at #7, only to be beaten by Rise of Nations, Planetside, and Doom 3 respectively. Nice job done by Blizzard, it's the only company to have two games on the list.

Another Umentioned Change - Deathwing @ 3:17:05 EDT
With the new patch, there was another change. Players can now cancel town portalling after using a Town Portal Scroll during its five seconds delay. Currently, doing so will use up the Scroll, but this is a bug that'll be fixed in a future version. For details, click here.

Drunken Brawler Explained - Deathwing @ 3:03:46 EDT
In the recent patch, Drunken Brawler was given back to the Pandaren Brewmaster, but it wasn't stated just in what form. People will be happy to know that the skill is no longer an exact mirror image of evasion:

Level 1: 7% chance to dodge attack, 10% chance to do 2x normal damage.
Level 2: 14% chance to dodge attack, 10% chance to do 3x normal damage.
Level 3: 21% chance to dodge attack, 10% chance to do 4x normal damage.

No bad, the ability has 2/3 the power of both Evasion and Critical Strike, and should make the Panda slightly more useful.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 2:13:39 EDT
Ah, Neutral Heroes, prevalent in the Frozen Throne. Everyone you ask will tell you that its a cool idea... but just like the Pandaren is cool, it does not always translate to usefulness. Now with such heroes requiring an Altar, people often find that their race specific heroes are more convenient... and well better.

Your opinion? We here would like to know where Neutrals need a boost.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 1:59:18 EDT
With the start of a new week, it's time for a new poll.  So here's the results to the previous one:

In the near future, Blizzard will release the V1.10 Patch for Diablo II to liven up the game. Do you still play it?
Yes, a lot.   143   17%

Not Really   321   38%
Never played it   128   15%

TOTAL

..

Well, the results don't look too good for Diablo II, with over 50% of our viewers not planning to touch the game. However, there's still about a fifth that really do care, and it's great to see Blizzard putting effort into a game so many years after its release.

Frozen Throne Campaign Preview - Deathwing @ 4:05:40 EDT
Gamespot has written up a nice preview of the Frozen Throne Single Player Campaign. It features quite a bit of new information, including an outline of the Night Elf and Orc Campaigns. Of most interest:

The orc campaign also shows off a number of new features in the campaign editor, such as zones. For example, you may get a mission that requires you to travel to a mountaintop to gather up some special herbs. You'll find an area of the map that can warp you to the mountaintop, in essence transferring you to an entirely different map. But with the new campaign editor, the objectives and mission states remain the same as you travel back and forth between maps. In addition to the included orc campaign, Blizzard plans to make an Act II and Act III available for free download after the release of Frozen Throne for players who enjoy the RPG-style gameplay and who wish to continue the story of Rexxar set forth in the retail expansion pack.

Be sure to give it a read.

PCGAMER Frozen Throne Beta Impressions! - Spider @ 9:26:05 EDT
PCGAMER has finally got itself a copy of the Frozen Throne beta, and has released their thoughts on the subject. Here is the article:

Based on my time with the multiplayer beta of this upcoming WarCraft III add-on, it's obvious that Blizzard isn't rethinking the original's superb multiplay. Instead, with the played-fervently-the-world-over fundamentals steadfastly in place, Throne will augment the experience with a host of cool new additions.

The most significant is the introduction of new units and heroes. The Undead have always been my race of choice, and I've been pleasantly entertained with their new hero unit, the Crypt Lord. I especially enjoyed his ability to summon Carrion Scarabs, which are formed out of the bodies of the dead and then swarm out to attack enemy units. At lower levels the spell isn't very powerful, but once you've maxed it out, the Scarabs are quite deadly.

I was also impressed with Throne's fleshing out of other races. For example, I never played as the Night Elves in WCIII multiplay because their ranged attacks lacked the face-to-face. swords-against-shields-style of action that I love. Thankfully, the new Mountain Giant unit expands their arsenal: these bruisers wade into battle and use unrooted trees as weapons. They also have a taunt power that draws enemy fire toward them and away from weaker units.

Some balancing issues still need to be addressed, as a few of the units are too powerful right now, but I'm confident that Blizzard will give Throne the usual polish before the game ships.

As you can see, PCGAMER has high hopes for the game, and for all us beta testers, we share the same expectations. Expect Frozen Throne this summer, and be sure to discuss your opinions on our forums.

Map of the Week: Occult Sorcery 1.2 - Deathwing @ 2:50:11 EDT
Want to play a scenario on your own, without the bother of having to share on Map on Battle.net? This week, Infoceptor's offers just a map for you, featuring good old base building, and yet a completely new style.

In Occult Sorcery, players take on the role of the Daemons, who must summon the Demon Lord while defending themselves against Crusader Forces. What makes the game unique is that every race has been totally altered, including very original tech structures, all new units and heroes, as well as having to sacrifice humans for food. In addition, you're helped by two computer controlled servant races, both of which are again totally unique.

Download it here.

New Strategy: Chimaera Tech - Deathwing @ 3:16:58 EDT
In the Frozen Throne Beta, one unit stands out among the Night Elves, the Chimaera. While these beats are hard to tech to, especially with the increase lumber requirements, they're deadly. With their magic damage that can deal well over 100 damage per hit, a land army, even composed of all anti-air, doesn't stand much of chance.

In today's guide, Nightmyre goes through the details on high to tech to Chmaera's, without exposing yourself to a rush. If you consider yourself a good microer, then go have a read:

Ah you a good player? Be sure to send in your guide!

Night Elves Announced in WoW - Deathwing @ 1:26:44 EDT
Blizzard has made a major announcement about World of Warcraft today. Night Elves will be featured as a playable race! Here's the scoop from GFraizer:

Yes, this is the big news I was hinting at. I'm kind of surprised it came out this early I was thinking next week. Anyway, it's real! I have a Night Elf Character. I'm going to be picking a Night Elf as my starting character. I love their areas =)

Go get the "The Wired Issue GMR" for June 2003. It has a big section. Now the colors of the pictures are a bit "off" as you can see in the photos so don't treat those as actual (correct) screenshots. The whole thing is 4 pages long.

Sounds cool? Check out some cool screenshots of them here.
