New Lord of Destructrion MP3 - Deathwing @ 16:48:58 EDT
Blizzard has released another official Diablo II soundtrack. Here's the description from Blizzard's composer:

I attempted to take advantage of this freedom with this track, pushing the elements of the horror soundtrack - clusters, atonality, glissandi, sudden hits - as much as possible. I was quite happy with the way this worked in the game, and felt it did the job as a backdrop to the nefarious plans of Nihlathak

New Poll - Deathwing @ 21:39:35 EDT
The recent turn of events at E3 has brought some delicious news on the quality of Warcraft 3's single player campaign. Unlike other RTS games where the single player was almost a training sequence of the muiltiplayer game, Warcraft 3's singleplayer will be unique in its own way, and the campaign flows almost like a RPG. So in this week's question, we ask you which aspect of War3 you’re looking forward to the most, battling it out with players, and exploring the intricate storyline.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 21:25:49 EDT
A new week has started, and time for a new poll. Without further delay, here are the results to the current one:

In a Starcraft Ladder Game, a player was able to leave within the first 2 minutes of the game without suffering a loss. However currently in Warcraft 3, a player is penalized for leaving as soon as the game starts. Do you think that players should be given a chance to leave at the beginning of a game?
[comment]

Yes   424   55%
No   207   27%
Don't Care   135   18%

TOTAL

766

100 %
..

The results this time were a little surprising, but it seems the majority are opposed to Blizzard's decision to the remove the 2-minute rule. I guess most people would like the chance to leave at the start, should their opponent be too laggy or someone this they disliked. However on the hand, it would reduce the effectiveness of the random matchmaking system.

GameSpy Preview - ShadowHawk @ 10:29:32 EDT

Gamespot Preview WoW - Deathwing @ 23:05:35 EDT
Gamespot has got together and put up their first impressions of WoW from E3. It's only a short one page article, but still worth a look.

Wow Interview - Deathwing @ 23:03:44 EDT
RPG Vault has conducted an interview with Bill Roper about World of Warcraft. While it doesn't release too much we don't already know, it still offers some nice insight into the game.

Combat is obviously a primary part of the game - it is Warcraft, after all - but there are also a number of other ways to interact with the world besides bashing monsters. There are trade skills, social and political systems and places where you can go to just have fun and interact socially with other players. In terms of penalizing a player for dying when he is combat, we feel that the penalties should be light, especially for characters of lower levels.

Read the rest here. Kudos to Roadrage for the news.

World of Warcraft Preview - Deathwing @ 22:56:29 EDT

Another Ripped Layout - Deathwing @ 21:21:48 EDT
While I understand Infoceptor has a quite a nice layout, it still befuddles me as why clans and other sites would go to so much trouble ripping it off. In fact, this clan was sad enough to rip off an older version of our layout, one that those veterans here will surely remember. What's worse, this site actually decided to call themselves the Infoceptor Knights, just because they don't have a clue how to edit graphics to remove the Infoceptor on the title image!

While this display is flattering, it is not appreciated. If you feel the need to voice out against them, e-mail their webmaster here or take it directly to their forums. We thank Statix for reporting layout plagery #4.

New Story - Deathwing @ 21:09:46 EDT
Jinnifer Bickley has submitted the third chapter of her excellent Starcraft novel. 'Walk Without Rhythm' details a renegade Zergling, who joins a Protoss Expedition to find out about her ancestors, the Dune Runners. In this new installment, a turn of events finds Humans in the scene, eager to commit xenocide on the planet's peaceful inhabitants. It's definately a great read:

Warbucket Day of the Dragon Review - Deathwing @ 18:50:31 EDT
Warbucket has written a review of the latest novel based in the Warcraft III Universe, 'Day of the Dragon'. While I wouldn't specific recommend it as review, it does provide a nice summary of the book, which hints towards the storyline for Warcraft 3. For instance to book confirms the Medivh's is not dead.

E3 Expo News - ShadowHawk @ 13:32:47 EDT

RPG Vault Interviews Roper - Deathwing @ 21:59:22 EDT
RPG Vault has staged an interview with Bill Roper about Warcraft III. Considering the nature of the site, it is natural for them to focus on asking questions about the RPG aspects of the game. It is quiet a detailed interview, and numbers five pages long, though much of the information about heroes would be familiar to beta testers.

There are some interesting notes about the Singleplayer Campaign though, and hence it is worth a read.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 21:54:50 EDT
Those of you who played Starcraft  ladder games will know that there is a period of 2 minutes at the start of a game where a person can leave unpenalized. This feature was implemented so that is a player entered a game that was too laggy, or forgot to choose a race, he could leave it without having to commit himself to the game.

However, things are different with Warcraft 3. So far in the beta, a player is penalized for leaving the game as soon as it starts. This of course is understandable, since it prevents people leaving just because they didn't get their favorite map or matched against a player they didn't like.

Since anyone who used a random matchmaking service automatically enters the ladder, ladder games are a much more integral part of Warcraft 3 than it is in Starcraft. Therefore, this feature bears a lot of significance. Vote of what you think in this week's poll.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 21:26:10 EDT
It's the beginning of a new week, and time for a new poll. Without further delay, below are the results of the current one:

What of the Siege Unit's in Warcraft 3 sounds the coolest to you?

Mortar Team   258   34%
Catapult   53   7%
Ballista   77   10%
Meat Wagon   375   49%

TOTAL

As usual, it seems that the new wins over the old. The Meat Wagon snatched first place with ease, I mean, what could be better that a hideous death machines that hurls diseased corpses? The Catapult was the least popular... I guess people have got tired of it since Warcraft 1.

Gamespot Previews the Warcraft 3 Campaign - Deathwing @ 20:07:16 EDT
Gamespot has conducted an interview with Bill Roper and previewed the singleplayer campaign for Warcraft 3 at the same time. It's quite informative, especially the following paragraph:

Before, when you were the humans, you saw their motivations. Then as the Orcs, you see a different side of things. We're letting people see the story from many different viewpoints. Things are pretty different with the night elves. Then we let you play the traditional bad guys, the undead. It's helping us build a more developed world.

If you read that paragraph carefully, you'll note that it implies that the Undead Campaign will be the final campaign in Warcraft III... if that were the case, could we expect the Undead, and hence perhaps the Burning Legion to end in victory? Either that, or Nur'zhul takes matters into his own hands and rebels against the legion. Discuss it here.

Whatever the case, be sure to go read the preview. Also go check out all the new Singleplayer Screenshots. Kudos to DocSketchers for the news.

Some Warcraft III News - ShadowHawk @ 10:20:23 EDT
2 more pieces of news to mention today. First, Blizzard has put up the exciting Night Elf Owl page.  While there isn't much there (duh) it's still nice Blizzard is including everything they have put into to the game onto their page.

Warcraft III Singleplayer Preview - Deathwing @ 0:25:30 EDT
Gamespy has written up a new preview for Warcraft III's Singleplayer Campaign. This one is detailed, and offers a lot of juicy information on how the campaign will function, as well as the storyline:

Lord Arthas the Paladin, son of the king of the Human realm in Azeroth, struggles to uncover the reason behind the plague that is sweeping through the towns and villages in the kingdom. The king's court has been visited by a dark stranger offering advice on how to deal with the plague, but the king and his advisors have turned a deaf ear, instead vowing to solve the problem themselves.

This same dark stranger later visits the mages and wizards, foretelling of a threat that will tear the land of Azeroth asunder, but again, he is met with skepticism. He polymorphs into a raven and flies off, muttering something of not wanting to fail the world a second time.

Well, that dark stranger is obviously Medivh, and there's the mystery solved about that raven. Read it all here.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 21:10:21 EDT
Though each of the four races in Warcraft 3 are quite unique, they still have a number of common units. One of such is their long range artillery. Judging from their concept, abilities, and if you're a beta tester, playing experience, which one do you think is coolest? Vote in this week’s poll.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 20:57:38 EDT
With the start of a new week, it's time for a new poll. Here's the results to the current one:

Warcraft III Beta V1.30 is Released, do you like the improvements?
Hell Yeah!   161   27%
A Little   95   16%
Not Really   31   5%
Daboo?   314   52%

As expected, not many people took part in this week's poll as a number of you don't really follow the beta and had no idea what's going on. In fact, the majority of our viewers turned into peons. Out of those who had an opinion, it looks like Blizzard did the right thing again. Warcraft 3 gets better every week.

Upon closer inspection, it looks like my first impressions of the Goblin Shredder was incorrect. Yes, they're still weak for their cost in terms of combat, bit it seems I, like many, glossed over a minor detail, who would have though that Blizzard allowed these guys to harvest lumber?

In fact, Shredders drop 200 Lumber each time! This makes it an incredible harvester and just one of them will be able to supply your with your entire lumber needs.

The only Problem is the Night Elves, having to Lumber Depot, cannot use the Shredder. This makes the game rather unbalanced at the moment.

War3 V1.31 Reponse, Shredder Screenshots - Deathwing @ 23:06:09 EDT
It's been half a day since the release of Warcraft 3 Beta V1.31 and I thought you guys would be interested in some of my initial impressions. The balance changes have been very useful, and the Undead actually stands a chance now. The Ziggurats reduced lumber cost (100 to 50) makes it much easier to the Undead to get a base started.

Despite the increase in Altar Build Time, hero rushes can still be executed very effectively against Night Elves in particular.

There was one major addition made in the patch, the Goblin Shredder, a new mercenary that can now be hired. From what I've seen so far though, it's costs too much for what it does. The unit looks cool, but that's about it. I hope Blizzard will give the unit a boost in future so that it'll be useful. Anyway, here's some screenshots of it, including its stats.

Finally Siege Units function a little better now, but I think they're still a little too strong.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 21:42:56 EDT
Warcraft III V1.3 has been release, the third major patch for the Warcraft III Beta. It introduce a huge number of balance changes, as well as new maps and creeps. Your first impressions? Tell us in this week's poll.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 21:25:19 EDT
It's a new week, time for a new Poll. Below’s' the results to the previous one:

Warcraft Difficulty Level will you try first in Warcraft III's Single Player Campaign?
Easy   272   31%
Normal   407   46%
Hard   204   23%

TOTAL

883

100 %

As one would expect, most people are normal, and hence normal difficulty the most popular first choice. However there's a good number that'll attempt each of the three different difficulty levels, so Blizzard's new feature is not going to waste. From these results, Infoceptor's walkthroughs for War3 will focus on normal difficulty, those who play hard wouldn't want help anyway.

Overlooked Features in V1.3 - Deathwing @ 21:02:06 EDT
LinkinHybrid has made a post here that mentioned the overlooked new features of V1.3:

  • 2 new maps - Mystic Isles and The Crucible
  • New option - set the port your computer connects to.
  • Turn off Unit Shading and Occlusion

The two new maps are very good, though they do not seem to be ladder maps. I would certainly recommend Mystic Isles, considering that it has a new neutral building, the Waygate, and also new Murloc Creeps.

Also there's a new bug. If you go to custom game, and make your own game, when you choose a map, the first map that you pick, it's screenshot will stay in the preview window. Kudos to LinkinHybrid for the news.

Campaign Editor Screenshots - ShadowHawk @ 16:08:03 EDT

Vid Card Tester - ShadowHawk @ 14:21:00 EDT
Blizzard has made up a program that tests your video card to see if it is compatible with Warcraft III.  The most powerful card on the market to date (The Geforce4 Ti 4600) is compatible.  I have the card and ran a test on the highest resolution possible and everything is running great.  Owners of that card fear not, your card is A ok.  Be sure to download the program is you have any doubts.
