More SC:G Screens - Deathwing @ 18:05:57 EST

Patch 1.10 Released! - Spider @ 8:38:46 EST
Yes, Blizzard has actually released a patch for StarCraft. While most were expecting some significant changes, it merely fixes a few problems.

- Fixed a bug involving burrowed units - if a burrowed lurker was attacked by air, it would stop acquiring other targets. Changed so that non-AI lurkers won't unburrow when attacked by air, which is a better idea all around.

- Fixed a bug where a drone could skate across terrain to an arbitrary destination after failing to build an extractor.

While nothing major, it still fixes problems, so I suppose it's worth it. Thanks to All2cuteJ for the heads up!

NEWS FOR Saturday, March 29, 2003

Serious Frozen Throne Bug - Deathwing @ 21:41:24 EST
If this were the full version, Infoceptor would not be so quick to post how to replicate a bug in the game. However considering this is the beta, we believe that it is essential for bugs to come out quickly, so that they'll be quickly addressed:

A major exploit has been discovered that has turned the game into a hero arena and severely crippling the game. It's known on battle.net as the tome bug. Let's say there is a tome of agility, strength, or intelligence, or hp laying on the ground. Take a hero, hold shift, and right click constantly on the tome (adding waypoints to the tome). The hero will use the tome as many times as you have right clicked, giving the hero insane stats.

Discuss it here. Kudos to Joe Lyga for the news.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 20:49:24 EST
So far through the beta, three neutral heroes have been made available for testing, the Dark Ranger, Naga Sea Witch, and of course, our beloved panda. Today's poll focuses on how well these heroes are balanced, so be sure to vote on which you consider most powerful.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 20:31:49 EST
With the start of a new week, it's time for a new poll. So without delay, here's the results to the previous one:

Do you agree to the drastic changes made in Frozen Throne Beta V304?
Totally!   262   32%
Mostly   323   39%
Not Really   83   10%
Daboo?   157   19%

TOTAL

825

100 %
..

It is good to see that people in general, agree with the changes made. Considering the fact that hey completely changes the way people play Warcraft 3, that is reassuring. For those who're not beta testers out there, keep in mind that when you get the expansion, everything will change. One could argue its a different game with the same graphics, well maybe not that far!

Starcraft: Ghost Interview Translated - Deathwing @ 20:20:54 EST
The avid reader will record that yesterday, we announced that Krawall Gaming Network has managed to get an exclusive interview with Bill Roper about Starcraft: Ghost. Unfortunately, only a limited number of people could read it, as it was in German.

Thankfully, this is no longer the case. AgreeOne has went through the trouble of writing a complete translation! And we have some new information.

  • Even if Microsoft buys Blizzard, they assure as the Ghost will not be Xbox only.
  • Ghost is scheduled for release at the end of this year.

Beastiary Revealed! - Spider @ 18:42:16 EST
Interested in World of WarCraft? Then go check out the Beastiary released by Blizzard!

The doors are now open to the World of Warcraft Beastiary. This new addition to our ever-expanding World of Warcraft Web site features animations of many of the monsters found in the game, some of which are being shown for the first time. Among the newly revealed World of Warcraft monsters available in the Beastiary is the Green Dragonspawn, a noble creature native to the Swamp of Sorrows region of Azeroth. We will be adding more monsters to the Beastiary in the future, so watch our Web site for any new updates!

You'll notice that among the playable races...elves are not among them. I am outraged at this, being a fellow elf player, but let's hope they are a playable race at one point in time...at any rate, check out the site, it's definately worth your while.

Thanks to cirE for giving me the heads up while my cable was down. =P

Another Beta Patch! - Spider @ 14:54:35 EST
Blizzard has released a small 304a patch for Frozen Throne beta. It fixes some known issues, such as the Naga Sea Witch exploitation bug. Check out the changes here:

2003-MAR-24

PLEASE NOTE: We have made the Ctrl/Subgroup order functionality an optional
feature that is disabled by default. You can re-enable this functionality
by going to the "Options --> Gameplay" screen from the main Menu and check-
ing the "Subgroup Order modifier key" box.

MAJOR FIXES

- Naga Sea Witch movement type is no longer amphibious.
- Naga Sea witch now follows the proper "Hero" purchasing rules.
- Added a new map and fixed several others that were not properly
updated in previous patches.

MAP CHANGES

- (6)RiceFields: Added this new map which will initially be enabled for
2vs2 games. This map utilizes a new Random Creep concept where the creeps
that make up each camp are generated randomly each time the map is played.
- (6)Whirlwinds: Removed all Taverns. Replaced two Goblin Merchants
with Mercenary Camps.
- (6)StranglethornVale: Starting gold mines are reduced. Mercenary Camps
are now gold mines with strong creep camps. Neutral buildings altered in
the middle of the map. **NOTE: This map was unchanged in previous versions
regardless of notes indicating otherwise. **

While nothing major, it's still rather significant.

WarCraft III Map Maker Contest! - Spider @ 16:48:28 EST
Good at making maps? Think you have what it takes to compete with the best? Well, check out Blizzard's map making contest for WarCraft III.

Sometime next week, Blizzard will officially announce the Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Multiplayer Map Contest. We will post all the contest information and begin accepting submissions via our Web site at that time. Consider this an advance notice for those of you who want to get an early start on creating and polishing your best Warcraft III maps for the contest.

We’ll be looking for excellent multiplayer maps that can be used primarily for ladder play, and we will be accepting up to three maps per person. Please note that although trigger maps will be accepted, they will likely not be chosen unless they are extremely polished, fun, and bug free. Maps will be judged based on:

    • Layout creativity – maps should be original and not look like other maps
    • Creep balance and creativity – be creative with the number, placement, and difficulty of camps
    • Game balance – maps needn’t be symmetrical, but all start spots must be fair
    • Art – we’re looking for artistic texture usage, doodad placement, fog and weather usage, etc.

We cannot accept any map submissions until the contest has started, nor can we reply to any emails asking for further details. Please stay tuned to the Blizzard.com Web site to find out when the contest will officially go live. All the additional information that you’ll need about the contest and how to submit maps will become available then.

Best of luck to all those who enter! And be sure to post your maps on our forums if you'd like to share. We'd appreciate it!

    - Impale now does 100/200/300 damage a level, down from 120/240/360 damage
per level. It also no longer stuns, beyond the fact that impaled units
are in the air for a while and lose any channel spell they are casting.

second. They are now similar to a slightly improved Moon Well for mana

    - Phase Shift now has a cooldown of 6.5 seconds, up from 3.5 seconds. Its
duration has also changed and is now 1.5 seconds, down from 2 seconds.
    - Phase Shift no longer turns Faerie Dragons ethereal--instead, they are
temporarily removed from the game, and reappear a short time later.
This still causes attackers to switch targets, and causes any projectiles

    - Tome of Power is once again in the game as a level-8 artifact. However,
it has been reworked. It now gives you a level's worth of experience,
rather than just promoting your Hero to the next level up.

    War3 Stats Summary Updated - Deathwing @ 18:51:13 EST
FuMuChuGuLu has done a great job in bringing you another update to his excellent statistics summary of Warcraft 3. This one includes detailed descriptions and statistics for dozens of items in the Frozen Throne, as well as information in Mercenary Heroes that even some beta testers may not know.

The new Mercenary Hero Shops not only sell the neutral heros, but also allow you to revive your slain heros instantly. Doing this costs more than reviving from your alter, but its well worth the trade. Many players will place a "peon" at a Mercenary Hero Shop so they can instantly get their Heros back in the action if they are slain. Be careful of this nasty tactic on maps like Ice Flow and Hail Stone where the Hero Shops are extremely close to everyone's start location. Your opponent may rush you and send a peon to the shop. As soon as his hero falls, he revives it instantly and continues to devastate your economy!

Interesting? Be sure to read it.

Remember, the latest can be found in Frozen Throne Discussion.

    New Poll - Deathwing @ 17:20:46 EST

    Poll Results - Deathwing @ 17:10:48 EST
Start of a new week, time for a new poll. Without delay, here's the result to the current one:

Which 1vs1 Ladder Map do you like the most?
    Plunder Isle   151   17%
    Frost Sabre   26   3%
    Legend   46   5%
    Lost Temple   375   41%
    Tranquil Paths   45   5%
    Gnoll Wood   44   5%

Frozen Throne Spells Explained - Deathwing @ 19:41:35 EST
Zileas, newly recruited Blizzard employee, has written up a nice explanation on the different types of spells in Frozen Throne and how they will function:

When we improved the magic-immunity system to add in spells that affected magic immune units, we created three types of spells: physical, magical, and universal.

Physical spells cannot be dispelled, affect magic immune units and normal units, and do not affect ethereal units.

Magical spells can be dispelled by normal dispels, do not affect magic-immune units, and affect ethereal units and normal units.

Universal spells can work against anything, and cannot be dispelled. They include ultimates and healing spells.

For more information on examples of spells, be sure to read this post.
