New Poll - Deathwing @ 2:10:59 EST
At level 60, character advancement ends, and World of Warcraft becomes a completely different game. The end game of World of Warcraft currently involves few options, mostly 40 man raids for items, with a few people doing 5 man instance runs just for the challenge. Meanwhile, a lot of levels 60s become bored with the monotony of killing the same boss for a set drop, and reroll a new character, or venting the frustrations on poor newbie towns.

Of course, once battleground come out, that'll be another welcome addition. So, today, we ask, how welcome? What would you prefer to do when your character hits Level 60? Be sure to vote and poster your opinions here.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 1:26:08 EST
It's a new week, and time for a new poll. Without delay, here are the results of the current one:

Are you satisfied with the rate Blizzard is adding new content into World of Warcraft?

Totally   69   11%
Kind of   157   26%
Not Really   235   39%
Daboo?   142   24%

TOTAL

603

100 %
..

Wow, a poll with results that are not favourable for Blizzard on a fansite! This is very rare, and certainly does bode well for the company's public relations. Indeed, there has been no new content for two months, and with a monthly fee, people expect new content each month. With over half of their players dinstincely unhappy with their service, something needs to change.

Warlocks to be nerfed? - Deathwing @ 18:29:40 EST
An observant viewer of the recent screenshot released by Blizzard will notice that the imp icon is grayed out. As the warlock in the game is on full mana, and the succubi and voidwalker icons are also grayed out, there has been much speculation that Blizzard may forced Warlocks to use a soulshard to summon an imp next patch.

However, we do believe that is rather unlikely. Given it'll mean an overhaul of a warlock's entire tree so that they can drain souls at Level 1. It is more likely that Blizzard has disabled summoning in combat. No official word yet, we'll keep you posted.

Upcoming Featues Updated - Deathwing @ 2:04:40 EST
Blizzard has updated their upcoming features pagen with lots of new content, including speech bubbles, a new interface dinstinctly like cosmos, and a PVP Honour system. Everything sounds great, so be sure to read it. We just hope something is released before we die.

Starcraft Ghost: Restarted from Scratch? - Deathwing @ 0:45:38 EST
Its not every day that you hear near news of Starcraft: Ghost. Heck, correct that, its not every year you hear about Starcraft: Ghost! In fact, the last piece of official news about the game was dated back in May 2004! However, the guys at Gamespot has revealed an interesting piece of rumour:

What we heard: While killing time waiting to log on, World of Warcraft players have been known to grab any reading material around. However, it was only recently that gamers discovered something exciting in the box the massively multiplayer online role-playing phenomenon came in. Inside the product catalog that ships with the game is an advertisement for Blizzard's upcoming console outing Starcraft: Ghost. The game summary on page four features the following words, "COMING SOON to NEXT GENERATION CONSOLES." If true, the listing (pictured) would seem to indicate that Swingin' Ape, the developer that took over the long-delayed actioner last July, was restarting the project from scratch, hoping to ride the wave of next-gen launch titles. However, according to Blizzard, the listing is erroneous. "It is not coming to next-generation consoles," said a spokesperson. "It is currently slated for the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2." Questions about why the product listing would say "next generation" in the first place went largely unanswered. "The catalog hasn't been updated," was all the Blizzard rep would say.

Bogus or not bogus?: Officially bogus, unofficially probable.

Blizzard has been infamous for delaying the release dates of their games, but Starcraft: Ghost is one of those games that being delayed to a point where people have actually mostly forgotten about it. Discuss the details here. Perhaps the game should be renamed, Starcraft Ghost Forever?

Kudos to sckbassg3 for the news!

Raid Game Issues - Deathwing @ 13:45:15 EST
Blizzard has wrote up a list of issues and changes that that they expect to make to end game raids. It's nice to see that they're finally aware of the problems and are taking actions to fix them!

New WoW Patch - Deathwing @ 3:54:23 EST

Blizzard has released another patch for World of Warcraft. Hey, don't get too excited! No balance changes, no new content, it's just a hotfix:

We have deployed a client-side change that should improve  performance when large numbers of players are gathered in a small  area of the world. No other changes are included with this emergency patch.

Thankfully, its a much needed fix, as anyone in Ogrimmar and Ironforge can attest to. However, currently there's been a lot complaints, including character models, auction houses and mailboxes not showing up. Discuss it here.

New Mp3 Released - Deathwing @ 3:51:43 EST
Blizzard has released a new MP3 for World of Warcraft. Arrival at Khalimdor is another selection of soundtracks from the game. Be sure to download it.

In-Game Casinos No Longer Allowed - Ian_Winters @ 9:31:41 EST
Last night while I was exploring Azeroth, a global message showed up in the chat box stating that as of February 17th, Casinos were no longer allowed.  I must say I'm not disappointed, as I never took part in them, and they only served to irritate me with the constant spamming/rolling.  There's an absolutely huge thread about it on the official WoW forums here.  Also, here's an excerpt:

The practice of "casinos" -- gambling in major cities using the /random command -- has been a hot topic for many players of late. They have been dominating the city chat channels, and some have been scammed by certain individuals. There has been an overwhelming amount of player feedback on this issue, and after careful evaluation of the situation, our conclusion is as follows: casinos are no longer allowed in World of Warcraft. We certainly encourage players to create their own content within the bounds of the game, however, when such content becomes a detriment to the playerbase as a whole it can force us to make a tough decision such as this.

Expect prompt disciplinary action if you're caught running a casino from here on out.

Want to discuss it on our forums? Here's the thread we have going on the topic right now.  Feel free to post your thoughts!  And if you're playing the game, but can't seem to find a guild, perhaps we have what you're looking for. Just /who Infoceptor on Warsong and speak with one of us!

On a more personal note, take a look at what I found off a random plaguehound in EP!  The bid in the Auction House is currently up to 175g :-D  If I can find a couple more of these babies I'll have that epic mount in no time.

Interview with IGE - Deathwing @ 1:37:03 EST
So first of all, who are the IGE? The IGE is a company that specialises is selling online MMORPG content, that is, virtual items, armor, gold etc for real life money. They buy it from players who want to earn some cash, and sell it to.... well, strange people willing to pay money for those items and gold.

Recentally, it was unveiled that IGE is the mastermind of Thottbot and Cosmos, applications that thousands of WoW players have used. So it's extremely interesting to here from the people themselves:

As long as someone, somewhere is doing the work of killing rat to create a single piece of gold, then the value is maintained, because it takes time. And some individual has to have an account, and has to play the game. I believe that even if that individual is a commercial farmer, then that character has an account, and they're still playing the game, so in many ways they're still contributing to the health of the population.

Do give it a read.

Starcraft V1.12 Released! - Deathwing @ 1:21:10 EST

Out of the blue, Blizzard has released a new content patch, but hold your breath, it's for Starcraft! Yup, now 7 years into the game's release, Blizzard is still releasing patches for the game! Key features include:

  • Changed Speed from "Fast" to Fastest" for Ladder Games.
  • You now can preview your map in the Multiplayer chat screen.
  • Added a Friends List Feature and button that allows you to keep track of your friends on Battle.net.
  • Added minimap ping (Alt-left-click on minimap to show graphic location.)
  • Added alliance colors on units - Shift-Tab changes your color to green, your allies to yellow and your enemies to red.
  • Added right-click feature that will set your building rally point.
  • Added shift-# to add a unit to a control group.

It's great to see some of the key interface upgrades made in Warcraft 3 inplemented back into Starcraft. Blizzard must be one of the only companies I know that are still supporting such an old game!

WoW Cinematic Rundown - Deathwing @ 4:01:52 EST

Recall the opening cinematic in World of Warcraft? Now that you've played the game, you should know what its actually about! Ian Winters has unearthed an interesting article that was release during the beta, but now you've had a chance it play the game, it should all make sense!

As our movie starts out, we see what is obviously a rugged-looking Dwarven Hunter, his trusty bear at his side. As you see him crest the mountain and gaze upon Ironforge, you get the sense that he is returning from a hard scouting mission or is tracking some enemies through the area. But then you have to remember, this is Dun Morogh...that Dwarf is looking for a quest! He's level 10 at least, or he wouldn't have the pet, and he's finished the 3 quests in the zone already. He's hoping that maybe, beyond that next rise, will be a quest NPC for him. Sadly he is mistaken. Silly Dwarf, if it's quests you want, go to Elwynn Forest.

If you missed it a few month ago, be sure to read the rest here!

Beware Cosmos Trojan - Deathwing @ 4:00:10 EST
As usual, every new patch means that cosmos becomes out date, and needs to be updated. But right now, please take care and make sure you download it using the autoupdate patcher. Malicious users have released an cosmos update that actually contains a trojan. If your not sure, scan it first!

New Patch Available For Download - Ian_Winters @ 9:59:59 EST
And by patch I mean it's time to waste half your day trying to get everything working again for no real gain.  It seems this patch offers very little, and it will still leave people hungry for more.

Dueling across factions remains intact in the patch, in consideration of players' desires to duel members of the opposing faction.

*This is a minor patch to address localization issues discovered
during the European beta test. These changes affect localized text strings for French and German versions of the game only, and players in other regions will not see any changes to the game.

Miscellaneous
- Vocal emotes now display a normal emote to the chat window, instead of the "Player says..." text. Voice Emote Audio is unchanged.
- There is now a checkbox to turn off audio emotes.
- Many boxes and crates ready to be looted have been added around the world.
- Many new rare vendors selling weapons/armor/potions have been added around the world.

At least some of it is actual content, albeit pretty minor. That's alright, there's still plenty for me to do before I get bored.

If you have any questions or just want to post your experiences in the game, feel free to post them on our forums!

Outlands World of Warcraft Video - Deathwing @ 5:33:29 EST
Looks like players have managed to find a loophole and get themselves into yet another incomplete area in World of Warcraft. This time though, it's special, it's outlands! it heartening to know that even at this early stage of the game, the basic area has already been coded in by Blizzard.

Anyway, the zone isn't populated, and the sky hasn't been fully rendered properly. But it's certainly interesting to see the zone. Be sure to check it out

The video requires DivX to play.

NEWS FOR Monday, February 14, 2005

New Poll - Deathwing @ 4:23:43 EST
One of the major complaints for World of Warcraft right now is the lack of new content. One quick visit to the official forums would see hundreds of Level 60s complaining that the end game doesn't exist, and that people who reach the level cap are cancelling their accounts by the dozen

What's your opinion? Are you satisfied with the content updates for WoW? Be sure to vote!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 4:22:23 EST
Another week, and it's time for a new poll. Without delay, here are the results to the current one:

Which class would you least want to invite into your 5 man instance group?
Hunter   344   33%
Rogue   140   13%
Warlock   131   12%
Shaman   49   5%
Mage   33   3%
Druid   119   11%
Paladin   84   8%
Warrior   63   6%
Priest   86   8%

TOTAL

1049

100 %
..

No surprises here, as reported in our editorial, hunters who rise to high levels are really hurting as no one wants them in their instance group. This isn't helped by the fact that the hunter is one of the most, if not the most popular class overall. At any time, there's two dozen hunters for one priest....

Rogues come second place, and happen to again be one of the most popular classes. While interestingly enough, the Priest, one of the most necessary classes in instances is also one of the most rarely played. This sort of imbalance between supply and demand leads to frustration, and a lot of Level 60s having nothing to do.

In the March issue of Computer Gaming World, there is a full feature on what's comming next in World of Warcraft. Highlights include:

  • Descriptions of upcoming instances
  • Legendary and Artifact Items in high tier raids.

Thank to Lynna, we've got a transcription of all the juicy details on the instances to come, including Blackwing Lair, Dire Maul and tonnes more.

Ahn'Qiraj

Little is known of the ancient kingdom of Ahn'qiraj, save for sacttered legends concerning its creators-the enigmatic sorcerers known as the Qiraji. Night Elf tales abound of the Qiraji's strange hold over the insect like sillithid - and thier symbiotic link with the terrifying race. It's Become clear that the Qiraji are stirring once again behind the sand blasted walls of thier kingdom. the Sillithid have begun to amass in the southern regions of kalimdor. None know what vast evil might spew forth if the gates of Ahn'Qiraj were ever breached.

Other Info: The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj can only be opened by a mighty player driven quest. Once the gates are open, the spoils of Ahn'qiraj will be available for anyone on the server that can rise to the challenge. This will be a full blown raid zone, tuned for 40 max level player. it will have various types of encounters with some taking place in the open sands, and others deep within the hive tunnels

Sounds interesting? Read the rest here.

Also, do you own a copy of the Magazine? If so, we'd love scans! Please send them in!
