WoW Boosts Vivendi Profits - Deathwing @ 17:57:58 EST
Thanks to World of Warcraft, Blizzard;s parent company Vivendi has reported a dramatic boost in profits:

This increase was--perhaps unsurprisingly--primarily due to Blizzard's massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft, which the company describes as "the most popular MMORPG around the world." During 2006, the game experienced strong growth across all the regions where it was played. Its Burning Crusade expansion pack was released on January 16, selling 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours and becoming the fastest-selling PC game to date in both America and Europe

Gold Farmers in Shcok as Ebay Pulls Plug - Deathwing @ 3:17:58 EST
Ebay has made a historical announcement today, stating that they will be actively pulling down auctions of virtual items on their site...

Over the weekend, though, the most popular auction site on the planet began removing listings for in-game items--with one major exception. Though it now prohibits the selling of in-game items for World of Warcraft, EverQuest II, and other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, eBay will continue to allow sales for items and property in Second Life. -Gamespot

What does this mean? Well, probably actually not too much, except that there's less chance for independent players who simply want to sell their characters when they got sick of playing. The real gold farmer's... with their mega sites, are here to stay.

Auchenai Crypt Walkthrough Online - Deathwing @ 8:03:24 EST
Auchenai Crypt has much to offer. It is short, clean, and hosts one the most important story archs of the Horde. Yet, it remains the ugly darkling in Auchindoun... simply because no one knows exactly how to obtain these quests, or the secrets to defeating the mobs within.

Yet armed with the right expertise, the Crypts is a rewarding encounter. It pulls are challening but fun, its bosses non-standard, and a whole run should take no longer than 40 minutes... Not to mention Quest rewards that are hardly all that bad and one of the best grinding trinkets in the game.

Next in line... the the Halls of Archindoun!

IGN UK Burning Crusade Review - Deathwing @ 9:40:16 EST
IGN UK has posted a review of the Burning Crusade, they give it a 8.9/10, and proclaim:

Only two weeks in, and it's now very difficult to remember what World of Warcraft was like without The Burning Crusade. It's a seamless fit with what's gone before, and yet its big design ideas also make the game's universe feel much more its own thing. It's by no means Another Fantasy MMO anymore. It doesn't need to steal from Lord of the Rings and Warhammer anymore. It's Warcraft, and, as is obvious by the titanic number of people playing TBC, it can set its own rules now. TBC is a vital buy for any WoW player, and cooly cements its place as the best mainstream MMO there is.

More reason to buy it.

New Poll - Deathwing @ 4:04:25 EST
During the press release at the launch date of Burning Crusade, Blizzard revealed that they plan to revisit the Starcraft game world very soon... and that it will be an online game. This leads many to speculate that World of Starcraft is in the works.

However, would such a move really benefit Blizzard, when World of Warcraft already takes up over 50% of the market share? How many people would be dedicated enough to subscribe to two MMORPGs? And will Blizzard simply be stealing customers from themselves?

So this week's poll, you tell us. If both MMORPGs were available, which one would you play? And will you play both? Be sure to vote!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 4:00:38 EST
It's the weekend, and time for a new poll. So without delay, here's the results to the previous one:

What do you plan to do first in the Burning Crusade?
Level to 70   66   50%
Start a Draenei   6   5%
Start a Blood Elf   20   15%
Not Buying it   40   30%

TOTAL

Looks like levelling to 70 is by far the most popular option... which comes as no surprise. However, it is interesting to note that nearly everyone prefers the Blood Elves over the bulky Draenei. Looks like pretty races prevail, and these additional races may indeed balance the numbers between Horde and Alliance!

As for the 30% of you without Burning Crusade.. get it!

Mana Tombs Walkthrough Online! - Deathwing @ 8:44:21 EST

Its here at last! A complete guide to the first Burning Crusade instance that makes ill-prepared parties quil in terror. Mana Tombs is arguable more difficult than even several instances after it, due to its first and most deadly boss, Pandomonius!

Featuring mobs that aggro wipe, Casters that polymorph tanks, and Sorcerers that must be struck down within the first 10 seconds, Mana Tombs forces players to think outside and shrow over the traditional tank and spank amost completely. Casters may now need to tank, while mages must disregard aggro to prevent the summoing of deadly arcane elementals... and all the while, tanks must contend with mobs that aggro wipe and charge at casters with utmost tenacity.

Not to mention of course... that deadly first boss with damage reflection that will own any unprepared party!

Did you know?

  • Pandomonius is best tanked with an Affliction or Demonology Warlock.
  • Armor is almost useless when facing Pandomnius.
  • Mana Leeches, if AOEed, cause almost certain death for the party.
  • Sorcerers must be destroyed within 10 seconds, or you'll be contending with arcane elementals that AOE your entire party.

Mage Burning Crusade Nukes to be Buffed - Deathwing @ 7:50:42 EST
Remember all those new ranks of spells that you could get from AQ, which were then introduced at trainers? Well... it appears they're a bit too good. Consider:

Frostbolt Rank 11: 238 mana, 2.5 second cast, 556-599 damage. Slows movement speed by 40% for 9 seconds.
Frostbolt Rank 12: 247 mana, 2.5 second cast, 553-596 damage. Slows movement by 40% for 9 seconds.

Yup ladies and gentlemen, when mages level up to get that new rank of Frostbolt, they'll find it to be a gimped version of the previous rank! Fortunately, a buff is on its way:

Rank 12 is getting buffed. Don't have the exact numbers, but it should be around 20-25 points for max damage. Should be going in with the next patch. -Tsaeric
