Kain the Feared is one of the well-respected Starcraft Players around. Countless times he has got himself ranked high in both the Brood War and Starcraft ladders. Here in this interview we explore he's background, his history as will as his opinions on many of the Blizzard issues that are around today.

This interview with Kain-the-Feared was conducted by Death~Lizard. My questions will be inpurple and Kain's answers will be in white.

I wanna start off by saying thank you for your time on this interview. Age / Sex / Location?

18, male, Sherwood Park Alberta

Are you mostly a Battle.net or Kali player?

Have pretty much always been a bnet player, lotsa laddering but in the past 2 months I haven't even logged on.Pretty much all kali now

Any reason in particular?

Koreans sorta killed it for me..all zerg all temple. And lotsa cheaters that get through the mess, just gets boring.Kali is pretty much now cheat free, and a lot more fun for me, sorta like season 2 ladder

Tell me a little on your past, on battle.net, known things you have got, rank, etc.

Hmm..I started near the end of season 1, ended with a rating of about 1350

What rank would that be in season 1?

I think I was some where around 100. Season 2 I had #1 for a brief time with a rating of 1708. I made top 8 playin toss in a zergy world ;) and well bw season 1 I ranked 4rth. Top 16 and 5th at PGL ;)

Not bad, are there any prizes you won from Blizzard?

Yea ive gotten all sorts of junk. The collectors signed box, piles of t-shirts and caps, a zealotand a marine. I was never on bw beta though..and thats probably it ;)

Any favorite race you have?

Yea I like terran the most, however I pretty much suck with em so toss is what I go with ;)

What about favorite map?

Some of maps I like are Temple, Hunters, Styx, Dire, but my favorite 2 are Discovery and New Gettysberg

Since you don't ladder on battle.net anymore, is there anything you want to tell us, strats, tips, etc. ?

Here's some, never loose a dt to a scan, mix in a few probes with zealots against zerglings early (if a probe hits a zergling it only takes 2 hits from a zealot, much like +1 attack) and toss vs. toss never dt rush :)

Any well known players you have played in the past?

I've played probably everyone who has a good deal of skill.

Other than StarCraft, what other games do you like to play on multiplayer?

Subspace is my god ;) I used to play this MUD called Avatar. Tried kingdoms, it sucked, tried Everquest found it boring.So pretty much just subspace and starcraft. I will play war2 bnet edition when its released.

What are your thoughts on Diablo 2?

Should be great, I think d2 if its really cheat free will rock a lot

And as for WarCraft III?

War3 will be really interesting to see how it plays, and multiplayer, however im worried it won't have the competitave gaming edge that Starcraft has with rts mixed in.

What other things do you do other than internet gaming on the computer?

Im taking computer systems technology at NAIT and have a job as a cashier at Zellers (lotsa fun). I play both bass and guitar and have a real small time band.

What are they teach you to do at NAIT?

Computer programming for the most part

Did you start off cpu programming in high school?

Yep, some.

How many years?

I can manage in turbo pascal and im pretty good with c++
2 years..well sorta half a year with turbo and a year with c++.

Are you planning on making any specific programs with C++ ?

Nope.. I want to get a job in the programming field though

What do you think of your future on starcraft ?

Well if any more big tournaments come along I will definatly be joining them. However I don't see any companies like PGL hosting Starcraft any more so we may not see many if any more tournies unless I went to korea or something, SC will be a huge game for a long time to come :P

What do you think of the koreans on battle.net? Should Blizzard make them have their own server to go on, those with the ASCII?

No, having their own server really isn't a good solution. I think the biggest problem is the language barrier, but thats not something bnet can deal with

Does it ever bother you that you mostly left battle.net because of their majority over us?

Not really, I have found kali to be a lot better for me overall and I would have never gone there had something with bnet turned me off it

What are the reasons you think Kali tops Battle.net ?

no server splits, no lag, few cheaters and the ones who do mostly are caught and its a smaller comunity with better average players

Do you think StarCraft has its imbalances or people just cant play the races right?

I think its mostly the map that imbalances anything, but Starcraft is balanced in such a way that no race always dominates one matchup

What map do you mostly think is most imbalanced and why?

Probably Showdown, with the long distance apart and numerous cliffs, terran really owns it up

Do or did you ever work at web sites?

I did sorta work for one a long time ago posting news, but I don't even remember what it was called :P It died probably 6 months ago, recently my time frame hasn't allowed me to work on any.

What are you current future life goals?

Geez I dunno, finish NAIT and get into the programming field and/or start producing some records with my band.. which ever comes first =]
