Premeire Interview with Deathviper

This is an Interview conducted by Jason to his friend who was lucky enaugh to be at the Starcraft Premiere. Once again the infomation here is quite old and is a referance to what Starcraft was like before the beta.

1)Did the Terran addons make it impossible to 'wall off' early
in the game. What i mean is, were there big gaps for
theextensions/add-ons, or was it possible to not leave gaps and Still
              be able to get add-ons?

The addons were right next to the terran buildings, but not many
people used them frequently enough to have a wall in situation.

              2) Did it seem cheezy that the Terrans could up and fly their
              base away?

The terran's ability to move their base was EXTREMELY effective, my
friend had to relocate his base 12 times in one game and the terrans
made that possible. He said it was what made the terrans the best.

2.25) Did people use this to mine other mines/crystals or what?

Yes, they had several mining outposts to get resources and to set up
              an area to retreat to.

2.5) Were the crystals lying around spread out like C and C or
              in a mine?

I don't know, but I think it was both. Some on the ground and some
              concentrated in a mine.

2.75) Were there tree type things that could be gotten rid of so
that your original base could keep having more buildings?

There were various obstacles. Mainly wreckage and debris.

              3) Were all the units really slow? Were they like as slow as
              mages?

My friend moved his hand at the speed of all the units to explain to
me the speed. From my perspective, they moved quite fast. Most as fast
as a knight, some super fast and the slowest were about grunt speed.

              4) What spells did the protoss have?? Mind control?
              Hallucination?
              Teleportation?

He witnessed only some protoss spells, most protoss players used
carriers and arbiters. He was really impressed by the way they
summoned. There were LOTS of rippling effects and stargate type stuff.
He has seen hallucination, mind control, and teleport used. None others.

              5) What spells did the arbiter have? What spells did the
templars have? I guess I should say what spells went with what units.

He only mentioned the arbiter's ability to cloak others. The other
spells probably weren't as cool or were hard to get because he didn't
mention them. The templars could do everything mentioned in #4.

              6) What kind of defensive 'tower' type things did the protoss
have? Well, all the races for that matter.  What did they look like/ do.
              Were they antiair?

Each had 2 defensive buildings. They were used one or two at a time,
but  no one concentrated on surrounding their base with towers. The
terrans had pillboxes and missle turrets. The protoss had a base shield
(sounds cool to me) and a proton turret thingy. The zerg had a thing that
shot spore clouds and another that made a big tentacle flop out and kill
              units.

              7) Did the dragoons have the same look as before? Were they
slow? Did they have powerful attacks?

He said they were really strong and did enough damage to make a
difference in the game. He also mentioned their slow speed.

7.5) What anti air units did the protoss have?

Plenty. Almost all their units could attack air. Carriers, scouts,
              etc.

              8) Did you notice the zerglings gain speed as they zeroed in on
              a kill?

I don't think they did much. They probably did in small amounts but
were super fast to begin with.

              9) Did you notice what the overlords (jellyfish) of the zerg
did? Did they have any attacks or spells?

He never talked about those. I guess everyone forgot about them.

              >10) What special powers did the queens have?

They threw spores which exploded. They created plague epidemics. They
took over buildings. They also could inject marines with a symbiotic
zerg just like in the alien movies. The terran player wouldn't know
about this until 2 broodlings burst out of his marine's chest. They
are sorta like avengers, dealing lots of damage and then dying. Before
the burst out, the zerg player is able to see everything the infected
              unit sees.

              11) WOO HOO! I can't believe it's coming!! So, they said the
23rd or before? And that the beta would be dropped if it delayed things?

Exactly. They said there probably won't be a beta.

              12) Did the protoss or any race seem particularly weak in the
              beginning?

He said the zerg were weak in the beginning which made them hard to
              use.

              13) Were the protoss scouts fast and powerful?

Yes, he said they were just as good as wraiths without cloaking
devices. He also mentioned their great speed.

              14) Were fights alot like catapult fights? Like, did you have to
control your unit to run and not get hit and counter fire?

This came in effect only when using the terran arclite siege tank
              and/or the protoss reaver.

              15) Were the air units overpowering? the battleship and carrier?
Or were they just good, but needed ground guys for backup??

He said all the battles were won by leaving ground forces to defend
and sending out fleets of carriers, battlecruisers. However, he said once
everyone got used to the game, he used combinations of cruisers and
              arclite tanks.

              16) How did the protoss observers work? Can you get them early
in the game or late? Were they often detected despite the cloak?

Observers were very useful and came quite early in the game. They
were not detected because no one had research stealth detect so early in
              the game.

Well, there are your answers. Thanx for the great questions. You were
right about the hundreds of e-mail I got. Thanx again!
